Yes to the Dress is the third episode of the Strawberry Shortcake YouTube Special series. It premiered on May 28th, 2018. This episode adapts "Yes to the Dress" from Issue #3 from the 2016 IDW Comics.

Plot[]

The webisode begins at the Orange Mart/fashion studio, where Orange Blossom is preparing to make dresses for Sweet and Sour Grapes, with Strawberry Shortcake providing assistance. Orange thanks Strawberry for agreeing to help, and expresses excitement at getting to dress twins, rattling off several suggestions for matching outfits. Sour Grapes stops Orange, stating she doesn't do "matching" outfits. Orange is a bit disappointed, but accepts Sour's refusal. Sour Grapes finds the dress design she wants on her laptop, showing it to Strawberry, while Sweet Grapes finds her dress in her fashion magazine, and shows it to Orange. Orange asks Strawberry if she up to the task, and Strawberry enthusiastically confirms. The best friends high-five, and get to work.

After a long montage of ticklish measuring, fabric-picking, sewing, and a lot of vocal noises, the dresses are finally finished by the next day. Orange waits for the Grapes to finish changing, excited to hear their thoughts. Sour claims she hates it when people gush, before proceeding to gush about how perfect the dress is, complimenting Orange's fashion skills. Orange is thankful for the compliment as Sour continues talking, explaining that not everyone gets her style as it's a bit out there. She expects her sister to have picked something totally different, when Sweet Grapes finishes putting the dress on and steps out of her changing room...revealing that she's wearing the exact same dress as Sour, barring color schemes.

Sweet Grapes compliments Strawberry's handiwork, proclaiming the dress is gorgeous, before seeing that it's also the same as Sour's. Sweet is delighted at the revelation, but Sour is frustrated, and she storms out of the building. The three remaining girls are left concerned, Sweet admitting she just thought Sour changed her mind on the matching outfits and wanted to surprise her. Strawberry notes that it was just a coincidence, so surely Sour will understand, and so sets off to talk to her friend.

Strawberry spots Sour in the nearby forest, sulking underneath an apple tree. Strawberry approaches with concern, asking if she's okay. Sour is not, admitting her day is ruined. Strawberry begins telling Sour that the matching dresses was just a coincidence, chalking it up to a "weird twin-brain thing", but Sour tells her that's exactly why she hates it. Sour reveals she's always getting grouped with Sweet Grapes just because they're twins, but Sour wants to be different...and special. Strawberry comforts her, telling her she is special, and it's not because of her clothes. Sour tells Strawberry it's not just the dress, she's always trying to do the opposite of what Sweet does, but it always leads to them being the same. Strawberry asks Sour if it's more important being different from Sweet Grapes than it is being herself, pointing out that by always trying to be Sweet's opposite, Sour's still basing her entire identity around her sister, and by not letting herself have fun because she wants to be different, it's only going to hurt herself. Sour is shocked at this epiphany, and comes to the realization she shouldn't try so hard to be different from Sweet, and she should focus on building her own identity, not to mention she can wear her dress after all. A newly-invigorated Sour Grapes invites Strawberry to help her find some sneakers or combat boots, something to go with the dress that fits her style. Strawberry and Sour laugh together as the episode ends.

What Was Changed[]

  • In the comic, it was Raspberry Torte who was designing the Grapes twins' dresses. In the webisode, it's Orange Blossom.
    • Similarly, the comic took place at Fresh Fashions Boutique. The webisode, meanwhile, occurs at the Orange Mart.
  • When Sour tells the fashion-designing Berry Girl that she doesn't do matching outfits, she's more harsh in the comic, while webisode Sour Grapes is more gentle.
  • The comic Grapes twins picked their outfits rather matter-of-factly, while the webisode twins were more enthusiastic.
  • In the comic it's implied Sour asked Raspberry while Sweet asked Strawberry to make their dress. In the webisode, it's Sour who asks Strawberry while Sweet asks Orange. Strangely, the scene where Sour compliments Orange and Sweet compliments Strawberry is kept the same in the webisode despite this.
  • In the comic, only Raspberry Torte making Sour's dress was shown in the dressmaking montage. The webisode shows both Orange and Strawberry working on the dresses.
  • The dresses made for the twins are different. In the comic, they're tops with frilly shoulder-length sleeves and a splotchy pattern, a skirt, striped leggings, and slippers with a half-flower ornament on the toes. In the webisode, the dresses are proper dresses, with twin stripes across the chest and skirt hem, different-colored sleeves, and a belt across the midsection.
  • Sour says Sweet Grapes' dress must be hideous before seeing it's the same as her dress in the comic. In the webisode, she instead says "different", and is much less rude about it.
  • Sweet Grapes doesn't express excitement at the matching dresses in the comic.
  • Sour Grapes throws off her dress in anger and runs off afterward in the comic, while webisode Sour keeps the dress on and just storms off in frustration.
  • The three remaining girls don't discuss why Sour must've run off, with Strawberry deciding to go after Sour on her own while Sweet apologized to Raspberry for her sister's behavior. In the webisode, they do ponder why Sour ran off, which leads to Strawberry going after Sour.
  • When Strawberry finds Sour in the comic, she's muttering about how Sweet probably chose the same dress to mess with her. In the webisode, she's just sulking.
    • The location where Sour is sulking is also different. In the comic, it's under a giant flower, while it's a regular forest in the webisode.
  • In the webisode, Strawberry brings up that the two picking the same dress was just a coincidence, which she doesn't do in the comic.
  • After Strawberry tells Sour she's different and special even without unique clothes, Sour reminds Strawberry that she has a twin as a rebuke of her point in the comic. In the webisode, Sour explains to Strawberry she's always trying to do the opposite of what Sweet does, but it always leads to them being the same.
  • The ending where Sour decides to go look for shoes that fit her style with Strawberry is a webisode addition. The comic ends after Sour realizes she has to act like herself instead of being Sweet's opposite. The webisode also has Sour vocally realize she should be herself and not Sweet's opposite, while the comic leaves it an unspoken revelation.
  • In the comic, Sour asks Strawberry if it means she can still wear the dress, which Strawberry confirms. In the webisode, Sour decides to still wear the dress on her own without Strawberry's input.

Trivia[]

  • This is the second and final episode to not feature Raisin Cane, with the first being the previous episode, A Haunting in Berry City.

Errors[]

  • When Strawberry and Orange are sewing the outfits, the audio randomly stops, leaving the episode completely silent until the two begin giggling.
