Will You Be My Lemontine is the 18th episode of the first season of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry In The Big City. It premiered on February 12th, 2022.
Summary[]
It’s Sweetie Pie’s Day and Lemon Meringue learns to show her friends she cares about them in her own special way.
Plot[]
Lemon Meringue tosses her wrench to herself as she walks back to her cart, until she notices something different about the Berryworks, and begins panicking. She looks around to see heart decorations around the Berryworks, Mr. Mangosteen giving his boyfriend a heart-shaped box, and the LemonLime Time cart overflowing with cards and gifts. Lemon shouts “not again!”, realizing what day it is.
Cutaway: Lemon grumpily says it's Sweetie Pie's Day.
Cutaway: Strawberry Shortcake excitedly declares it's Sweetie Pie's Day, otherwise known as the sweetest holiday, otherwise known as the day she can get all of her friends presents to show how much she loves them. Strawberry twirls around as she says that love is in the air.
Strawberry gives Blueberry Muffin a meditation pillow shaped like a chocolate bar. Blueberry thanks her, saying the gift is tranquil, and tasty, as she takes a bite out of the pillow. Orange Blossom receives a chocolate trophy that says "for the sweetest smoothie maker I know", thanking Strawberry for the gift as she takes a bite out of it. Strawberry asks "orange you glad I love you Orange?", but Orange is unamused by the pun. Lime Chiffon gets a book about chocolate which is made of chocolate, and begins reading it as Strawberry rushes off to give Lemon her gift. She spots Lemon, who is trying to dispose of the pile of gifts from the cart. Lemon then sees Strawberry running up to her (with hearts literally in Strawberry’s eyes and in slow motion) while holding a gift. Lemon, recoiling in fear, decides to runs away, as Strawberry gives chase.
A chase scene happens as Lemon tries to hide from Strawberry. The two appear around the Berryworks, with Lemon continuing to evade Strawberry. Lemon runs by Blueberry's cart and jumps behind it as Strawberry runs past. Lemon, relieved, walks away, until Strawberry bursts through the nearby doors, causing Lemon to run off toward the statue of J. Quincy Cupcake, while Strawberry is confused why Lemon is avoiding her. Strawberry looks around the statue, but can't find her and walks away. It's then revealed Lemon was hiding on top of the statue using suction cups, laughing to herself at her plan working, until she loses her grip and falls off. Strawberry runs across the Berryworks searching for Lemon, unknowingly passing by her, as she camouflaged herself on the wall, Finally, Lemon jumps into a potted plant as Strawberry runs past her. Lemon thinks she's successfully avoided Strawberry, until she pops out of the potted plant right next to her, much to Lemon's chagrin.
Strawberry asks Lemon why she has been avoiding her all day, as she wants to give Lemon her Sweetie Pie’s gift. Lemon loudly refuses the gift and says she doesn't want it. Lemon sighs and tells Strawberry it's nothing personal, but she just hates Sweetie Pie's Day.
Cutaway: Strawberry gasps in shock at the revelation.
Strawberry asks her why, bringing up the holiday being about love, which Lemon recoils at. Strawberry then brings up handwritten cards, which Lemon also dislikes, as it's writing about feelings. Strawberry then mentions hugs as she pulls Lemon into one, but Lemon shoves her off and says that hugs are the worst part. Strawberry, concerned, asks Lemon if she even wants to show her friends how much she loves them. Lemon admits she does, but the holiday's all about sharing feelings and giving gifts but she doesn't know what to do or say, and it just makes her feel uncomfortable.
Strawberry understands, but asks Lemon to open her Sweetie Pie's gift, no feelings needed. Lemon does, and sees that it's a chocolate bolt, which confuses her. Strawberry explains that Lemon shows everyberry how much she cares with her genius inventions, like Strawberry's Very Berry Oven, so Strawberry made the gift for Lemon as a way to say "thank you" for showing how much she cares in her own way. Lemon is touched, and gets an idea.
Lemon gathered all her friends to the Berryworks courtyard. She tells them that she knows it's Sweetie Pie's Day and that they all want to talk about feelings, but because she doesn't want to do that, she's instead going to show them how much they mean to her with her newest invention: "The Hug Meister 3000". The Hug-Meister's eyes glow red and it makes a threatening hugging motion. Orange, Lime and Blueberry take a step back from intimidation, but Strawberry just notes that Lemon openly shared her feelings.
Cutaway: Lemon says she realized that she does like showing she cares, but in her own way. Lemon notes that the best hugs for her, are the ones she doesn't have to be a part of.
Strawberry gets the girls to hug the Hug-Meister, all of them being squished together by the Hug-Meister's arms. Lemon looks at them, satisfied with her Sweetie Pie's day, as she goes back to work on her cart.

Trivia[]
- This is the first Valentines episode of Berry In The Big City. Though it's called "Sweetie Pie’s Day" in the series.
- "Will you be my Lemontine" is a pun on "will you be my valentine" and "lemon"
- This episode was first released as part of a multi-episode compilation, consisting of it and 4 other previously aired episodes, when prior releases were just the new episode and the previous one.
- Mr. Mangosteen is briefly seen in the beginning giving his gift to one of the male jogger background extras. He is eventually revealed to be Mangosteen’s fiancé, Bobby Bananabee, in Season 3.
- This retroactively makes Mr. Mangosteen and Bobby Bananabee tied for being the first LGBT characters to appear in the series, and the first gay couple in the franchise. However, Fluffy Chiffon and Dr. Lime Pops still hold the honor of being the first confirmed gay couple to appear, since Bobby and Mangosteen's relationship was established after them.
- It is implied that Lemon is extremely popular at the Berryworks, judging by the huge pile of cards and gifts for her left at the LemonLime Time cart.
Continuity[]
- This episode expands on Lemon's previously established introverted traits as shown in Lemon's Name in Lights, as she explains that she's uncomfortable with expressing her personal emotions to other berries, which also further explains why she didn't want to give a speech for the tree-lighting.
References[]
- When Lime begins reading from the chocolate book about chocolate, she quotes the famous "To be or not to be?" line from William Shakespeare's Hamlet. In this case, Lime says "To cocoa bean, or not to cocoa bean?"
Errors[]
- The pot that Strawberry hid in disappears when she goes to hug Lemon. But returns when Strawberry handed her the Sweetie Pie's gift.
- Lemon and Lime's cart is shown to be overflowing with gifts at the beginning of the episode, but in the following far-shot, the cart is completely empty of gifts.
- The credits leave out Bahia Watson, despite her having a line in the episode as Orange Blossom.
