The Play's the Thing is the 13th episode of the second season of the 2003 Strawberry Shortcake series. it aired on October 18th 2004. The episode is a retelling of the classic fable of Cinderella.

Summary

Strawberry's self-consciousness about an old, worn raincoat is eased when the gang puts on a play of Cinderella that reminds everyone that the person inside is what really matters.

Trivia

• Unlike most retellings/versions of Cinderella, the Fairy Godmother (Angel Cake) warns Cinderella (Strawberry Shortcake) to return home before 8 o'clock instead of midnight. Cinderella/Strawberry questions this, and the fairy godmother/angel says that it is because it would be past her bedtime.
• The not-so-nasty stepmother (Blueberry Muffin) tearing up Cinderella's/Strawberry's dress that the step sisters accidentally threw to her could be a reference to the Disney version of Cinderella, whereas the stepsisters tear up Cinderella's dress.
• The coachman who takes Cinderella's stepsisters to the ball bears a resemblance to Peppermint Fizz. Peppermint Fizz also seems absent at the start of the episode, though Cola does appear in the audience, indicating that she is in fact playing the coachman.
