The Great Gooseberry Chase is the 10th episode of the first season of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry In The Big City. It premieres on December 18th, 2021.

Summary[]

Strawberry Shortcake and Orange Blossom race to find the most important ingredient, but realize that friendship is more important.

Plot[]

Cutaway: Strawberry Shortcake begins the episode by talking about how her Grandberry Jam would always say the most important ingredient in any dish is love. Unless the dish is gooseberry pie, in which case the most important ingredient is...

Cutaway: Orange Blossom finishes Strawberry's sentence with "gooseberries", saying that gooseberries are nutritious, delicious, and make her ambitious. Orange explains that she's training for the All City Cherry-thon, and nothing gets her amped like a gooseberry smoothie.

Cutaway: Strawberry says that she needs some quality gooseberries to nail the recipe and that there's only one place...

Cutaway: Orange continues Strawberry's sentence, establishing that there's only one place in Big Apple City to get good gooseberries, and it's at Mr. Mangosteen's fruit stand.

Orange and Strawberry run up to Mr. Mangosteen at his fruit stand and greet him. He greets them back and asks the girls what he can do for them. They both ask for one carton of gooseberries, but Mangosteen apologizes and tells the girls that he just sold out, and that the last batch is going to Mrs. Crumbcake from all the way across town. The girls are initially dejected until Mangosteen brings up that it was a big order, and says that she may have enough berries for just one more recipe. the last part said in a dramatic tone. The two girls gasp, and Mangosteen notes that his delivery boy is about to leave. Orange and Strawberry watch the delivery man drive away on his scooter with the basket of gooseberries.

The girls put on an intense face of determination, only for them to insist that the other should get the gooseberries. Strawberry says Orange should have them as she told her about the fruit stand, but Orange refuses and says that Strawberry should have it instead. Strawberry immediately accepts and rushes off, angering Orange as she chases after the delivery boy too.

Orange catches up to Strawberry, prompting the latter to yell that Orange did insist that she should have the berries. Orange responds by saying she insisted because she thought Strawberry would insist back in return. Strawberry hears the delivery scooter honk, momentarily distracting her, which Orange uses to sprints right past Strawberry, causing Strawberry's hair to be messed up from the speed, and leaving her in the dust.

Cutaway: Strawberry notes that Orange is fast in an impressed tone.

Strawberry fails to catch up to Orange, and ends up pausing at a bus stop to catch her breath. She then looks up at the stop and gets an idea. The scene cuts back to Orange, still running, when she notices a bus drive right up to her. On the upper floor of the bus is Strawberry, who playfully says to two elderly tourists that on their left, they can see someberry that won't be getting gooseberries today. The two elder berries begin to takes pictures, before Strawberry tells them no photos.

Cutaway: Orange acknowledges that Strawberry is resourceful in an impressed tone.

Orange notices a concrete safety barrier blocking her path, she sprints faster and jumps clean over the fence.

Cutaway: Strawberry is wowed, and asks if she mentioned Orange being fast. Strawberry isn't deterred, saying she can't possibly beat a bus. She then asks that someberry tell her that Orange won't.

A traffic light turns red, causing many cars, and Strawberry's bus, to stop. Orange runs across the street, playfully telling Strawberry that she'll save some berries for her. Strawberry gets out of the bus and runs after Orange, before stopping and turning around to head in the correct direction. Both girls run into the Funnelcake System, where they end up being squished together in the crowded subway car. They have an awkward conversation about how crowded the trains are, as the camera zooms out to show the crowded train as the two look around. The girls run out of the Funnelcake system, but Strawberry sees Orange using rollerblades, pointing out it's unfair. Orange counters that by pointing out Strawberry took a bus, which Strawberry admits is a good point. Strawberry notes to herself that she needs wheels to catch up to Orange, and notices a pink bicycle.

A montage occurs of the two outsmarting each other with different ways of being faster. Strawberry uses the bike to get ahead. Orange rides an ostrich, confusing Strawberry. Strawberry uses a hang-glider, causing Orange to stop the ostrich. Orange uses a jetpack, causing Strawberry to lose control of her glider. Eventually, both make it to the house, accidentally knocking over the delivery boy.

Orange and Strawberry knock on the door until Mrs. Crumbcake answers, politely asking what can she do for them. Both girls shout they need gooseberries and frantically explain why in unison. Crumbcake expresses concern and tells them she was just going to use them to make juice for Honeydew Sorbet, her granddaughter. Honeydew peers out from behind Crumbcake's dress and walks up to the girls, telling the two that her grandmother said that the gooseberry juice is going to help her grow big and strong. Orange and Strawberry are moved by Honeydew’s adorableness, and they decide against asking for the gooseberries, awkwardly telling Mrs. Crumbcake that they got the wrong house and to enjoy the gooseberries, before running off.

As the two girls walk away, Strawberry talks about how quickly the situation got weird, which Orange agrees with. Strawberry points out that Orange rode an ostrich, and Orange says that both of them got carried away, and no berries are worth all that. Both decide to substitute their recipes with elderberries instead, as Strawberry notes that elderberries are a great substitute for pies, and Orange notes that they have the same nutritional value as gooseberries anyway. She then mentions that she saw one last jar at Mr. Mangosteen's fruit stand. Both realize what that entails and end up racing each other once more. The ostrich from earlier eats from a pile of fallen green berries on the road, and winks at the audience.
