Catch that Cricket is the 12th episode of Season 2 of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City. It premiered on 3rd September, 2022.
Summary[]
It’s been a long day and Strawberry Shortcake and Aunt Praline want nothing more than to sleep…*chirp* goes a cricket. It's going to be a long night.
Plot[]
The episode begins at the house that Strawberry Shortcake and her aunt Praline live in. The duo arrive home dead tired from their jobs as Praline comments that work at city hall was brutal. They head to bed. Later at night, Strawberry Shortcake hears cricket chirps, much to her surprise, but considers it unimportant, so she tries to go back to sleep. However, Praline bursts into the room to look for the cricket, quite miffed that it got past her bug-repellant force field, which she had paid good money on.
The confessional starts and in it, Strawberry Shortcake tells the viewer that she did not know that Praline had such a huge dislike for bugs. Praline then tells her that she left Berryville for that reason. The two join forces to find the cricket, looking in various places around Strawberry Shortcake's bedroom, but no crickets turn up. Praline then demands that Strawberry Shortcake quiets down, and they listen. More cricket sounds play, and Praline leaves for the living room. However, it turns out to be just a television program that is detailing how crickets live their life. Praline solves the problem by powering the television down.
However, another cricket sound plays, and Praline starts tearing the house apart in search of the cricket again. Strawberry Shortcake then tells the viewers that she thinks that her aunt is getting carried away in another confessional segment. Praline then identifies the sound's source to be in the air ducts, which she enters promptly whilst dragging Strawberry Shortcake along. At this point, Strawberry Shortcake realizes that Praline is getting a lot carried away. The two navigate the vents and then fall through the floor of the vent, landing in the living room. Praline then claims that the demon caused this on purpose whilst she recovers from the fall. Strawberry Shortcake calls in another confessional, clearly looking outraged as she refutes her aunt's assumptions and telling the viewer that it is a cricket.
The next scene shows the footstool from the living room being used as a shield that Strawberry Shortcake and her aunt are hiding behind in a fort made from the living room couch. Praline pulls out a purple grenade that she claims is the only option that she and her niece have left. Strawberry Shortcake reveals that she just wants the cricket gone and is exasperated that Praline would kill an innocent-looking animal. At that, Praline arms the bomb, grabs her niece, and flees the living room along with Custard. Strawberry Shortcake, not wanting a harmless-looking creature to die, runs into the room despite Praline's objections, grabs the bomb, and throws it out the window. She then looks for the cricket, finding him and then setting him free (although she does say that the cricket owes her one). Praline then re-enters the room, still not having gotten over her hunger for the cricket's blood. Her niece then assures her that the cricket is gone.
Later, Praline tucks Strawberry Shortcake into bed whilst she admits that she got a little crazy in her attempts to kill the cricket, but she is glad that they made it through. Strawberry Shortcake wishes Praline good night whilst she goes to sleep. Much to her surprise, Strawberry Shortcake hears a rooster crowing followed by her aunt's voice asking since when Big Apple City has a rooster. Quite annoyed, Strawberry Shortcake covers her head with her pillow.
