Tangerine Smash and Guava Girl are fictional superheroes and the protagonists of the in-universe comic book "The Terrific Tales of Tangerine Smash".

General Information[]

The series was created by famous comic book writer Jack Kirberry. Nearly 35 years of stories featuring the two would be published, spawning countless toys, merchandise, and a theatrical movie. Orange Blossom is a huge fan of the series, and views Tangerine Smash as her personal idol.

Appearance[]

Tangerine Smash is a black woman with dark skin, olive eyes, and long, orange curly hair that reaches down to her shoulders. She wears a pale gold headband, orange gloves with pointy edges, and a sleeveless jumpsuit. the jumpsuit is primarily orange with a "swimsuit" appearance, a white collar with a similar pointed pattern to her gloves, and white legs. She has orange slippers. Little is known about her appearance as Tangerine Drizzle aside from that she wears glasses.

Guava Girl is a dark tan woman with dark green eyes and pink shaggy hair that reaches down to her shoulders. She wears a beige and pastel green shirt with a stylized guava insignia, a green domino mask, beige gloves that reach halfway to her elbows, a dark pink utility belt with a green buckle, a pastel green skirt, pink leggings, and green heeled boots.

Personality[]

Not much is known about their personalities, as they are fictional characters. It can be inferred that they are heroic and friendly women, as they are superheroes.

  • "The Terrific Tales of Tangerine Smash" Issue #37: Tangerine Smash is trapped in the dream world by her archnemesis, Nightmango. Guava Girl uses gadgets from her utility belt to save Tangerine Smash.
  • Unknown "The Terrific Tales of Tangerine Smash" Issue: Orange Blossom read it in the beginning of Super-Berry. The plot is unknown.
  • Unknown Comic Issue: Brief snippet of it was heard from Orange Blossom in Bake Off. The plot is unknown, but it can be assumed from context that Tangerine Smash was battling a supervillain.
  • "Tangerine Smash Summer Spectacular" #10: Tangerine Smash and Guava Girl's origin stories are told. Clumsy, mild-mannered reporter Tangerine Drizzle was exposed to cosmic citrus rays, giving her superpowers. Guava gains her powers after being given a magical guava from her long-lost grandmother.
  • "Crisis on Infinite Crisps" Issue #4: Guava Girl encounters her evil twin, Legume Lass.
  • "Tangerine Smash: Sweet Justice": A theatrical film featuring Tangerine Smash. The plot is unknown.

  • Let's Go to the Movies: The premiere of Tangerine Smash: Sweet Justice, with Orange Blossom and friends attending. Online personality Pineapple Clafoutis makes a pre-emptive negative review of the movie. Orange Blossom manages to convince Pineapple to leave the theater for disrupting the other moviegoers, to everyberry's applause. The movie was considered enjoyable by the Berry Besties.
  • Strawberry Shortcake’s Perfect Holiday: Orange Blossom and Bread Pudding's sideplot has the two argue over how the Berryworks' Winterswirl tree should be decorated. Bread wants to do a traditional tree, while Orange Blossom wants to decorate a Tangerine Smash-themed tree with her complete collection of Tangerine Smash holiday ornaments. In the end, Cinnamon Swirl resolves the issue by combining the two ideas, creating a Tangerine Smash and traditional-themed Winterswirl tree.
  • A Holiday Your Way!: Orange Blossom creates a Tangerine Smash-themed snowman.
  • Crushing The Cosplay: A comic convention in Big Apple City occurs, with series creator Jack Kirberry in attendance, also acting as judge for a Tangerine Smash and Guava Girl lookalike contest. Orange Blossom convinces Strawberry to join her in the contest. Strawberry hesitantly accepts despite her lack of knowledge of the series. Sour Grapes helps Strawberry using her complete knowledge of Tangerine Smash history. Strawberry realizes that she wouldn't enjoy the convention, and tells Orange that she can't go with her, but knows that Sour Grapes would have much more fun at the event. Sour Grapes and Orange Blossom attend the comic convention together.
  • Strawberry Shortcake's Spring Spectacular: Orange Blossom mentions that Tangerine Smash inspires her to be heroic and do good wherever she can, while holding up a Tangerine Smash comic issue. She uses this to inspire Bread Pudding to become a hero too.

  • Tangerine Smash's name comes from a type of cocktail.
  • Episodes where Tangerine Smash appear regularly reference Marvel and DC properties:
    • Tangerine Smash is based on Superman, being a superhero with flight, super-strength, and a mild-mannered reporter alter-ego. Her and Guava Girl are also based on Batman and Robin, being a superhero duo with gadgets and (in the case of Guava Girl) a utility belt.
    • The two comic covers shown homage the covers of Action Comics #1 and The Dark Knight Returns.
    • Their creator, Jack Kirberry, is a clear nod to legendary comics artist and writer Jack Kirby, known for co-creating Captain America, and working on Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, and Thundarr the Barbarian. He is also partially responsible for the creation of the romance comic book genre
    • In “Crushing The Cosplay”, Orange and Strawberry (dressed as Tangerine Smash and Guava Girl respectively) climb up the side of a building in a similar manner as Batman and Robin in the Adam West Batman series.
