Tamale is a character from the original Strawberry Shortcake television specials. He first (and only) appeared in Strawberry Shortcake in Big Apple City.
General Information[]
Tamale is a Latino mole who first encounters Strawberry Shortcake and Orange Blossom as they were trying to figure out a way to get to Spinach Village after The Peculiar Purple Pieman sabotaged the traffic lights to never turn red. Tamale had been attempting to dig tunnels to get to Acapulco, but ended up in Big Apple City by mistake (presumably due to his tunneling periods taking too long which resulted in him getting lost). After lamenting that he has nowhere to stay in the city, Strawberry offered him to stay at Spinach Village, which he graciously accepted. In return, he provided Strawberry and Orange a way to get to the village by tunneling underneath the traffic to bring them all the way there.
He accompanied Strawberry to the Little Theater Off Times Pear, where they acted as the audience for the baking competition between Strawberry and the Pieman. At the end of the special, He, along with Strawberry's new friends, decided to move to Strawberryland. Despite his decision to move, no future episodes featured him; it is implied that Tamale left later to get to his original destination in Acapulco.
Appearance[]
Tamale is a round brown mole, who wears a white sombrero with a large green band and a red stripe across the brim. He also wears a white scarf with green and red stripes loosely draped on his right shoulder.
Trivia[]
- Given that he was attempting to go to Acapulco, it is likely Tamale is Mexican.
- He is the first Latino character in the franchise, predating Cafe Ole by 2 years.
- His name was originally going to be Guacamole, as a pun on the real-life Mexican dip and the word "mole".[1]
