Strawberry Shortcake YouTube Special is the third animated series of the Berry Bitty Adventures era, following Strawberry Shortcake: Beyond The Box. On May 4, 2018, during the production of a new series. WildBrain (known as DHX Media at the time) created a 5-episode 2D-animated web series exclusive to YouTube.
Each episode is around 3-5 minutes long and adapts several stories from the IDW comics. Unlike the main series, Strawberry, Orange, the Grapes twins, and Blueberry are the only returning characters, with the latter only making a single minor appearance. Steve Piemanne and Raisin Cane also appear due to some of their comic stories getting adapted. The stories are also heavily altered to replace the original casts with the 2018 cast. The series ended on June 20th of the same year with “Promotion Commotion”.
General Similarities to the Comics[]
- The overall plot elements for the adapted stories remain the same.
- The characters that carried over are largely similar.
- Steve Piemanne and Raisin Cane retain their original roles as antagonists.
General Differences to the Comics[]
- The cast is vastly shrunken down, featuring only 6 major characters (two of whom are absent in several episodes), and 7 total onscreen characters.
- Character roles are altered, switched, or outright removed in order to compensate for the small cast.
- Certain plot elements and scenes are removed or merged with other scenes to fit the story within the 3-5 timeframe. In the case of the shorter stories that were adapted, scenes would be expanded to fit the runtime.

Trivia[]
- It is the shortest Strawberry Shortcake show in the franchise’s history, lasting only a month and a half with five episodes and a total runtime of around 20 minutes.
- It is the first series to consist solely of adaptations of previously released stories, rather than original stories.
- Strangely, Promotion Commotion adapted "The Cane Critique", which was in the middle of the story arc involving Steve Piemanne and Strawberry Shortcake's rivalry, meaning a couple references are made to events that did not occur in the Webseries itself.
- It is the first animated series to not have Raspberry Torte, Plum Pudding, Lemon Meringue, Huckleberry Pie, or Pupcake appear in any capacity.
- As the returning characters are all recasted for this series, this marks the first time Strawberry Shortcake herself changed voice actors within a single generation. Her previous voice actor, Anna Cummer, is replaced with Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld.
- This series marks the first time Raisin Cane appears in animation.
