Trivia[]

  • This special is the first to reintroduce a legacy franchise character, as Apple Dumpling makes her debut.
  • Huckleberry Pie, Raspberry Tart, Bread Pudding, and Sour Grapes do not make an appearance in this special, making it the first to not feature the entire main cast.
  • The Lucky Spoon is finally confirmed to be magical, and is a creation of the Berry Guardians.

Continuity[]

  • The Berry Guardians are brought up again in this special, having been first mentioned by Blueberry Muffin in A Berryworks Mystery.
  • Lime Chiffon acknowledges her and Blueberry’s prior conflicts over science and mystical beliefs.
  • When Pineapple Cobbler sarcastically asks Blueberry if she’s going to wish for Cinnamon Swirl to help them, Blueberry almost mentioned that they knew her before Strawberry stopped her, referencing the events of Strawberry Shortcake’s Perfect Holiday.
  • In the treasure room of the Berry Guardians cave, four chests can be seen, two opened and two unopened. One of the opened chests used to contain the Lucky Spoon, but the other chest’s former contents weren’t addressed. However, if one recalls the events of A Berryworks Mystery, one of Blueberry’s legends stated that J. Quincy Cupcake used a magical whisk. As the unopened chests also contained magical utensils, and the legends of the Berry Guardians turned out to be real, it’s likely that J. Quincy did indeed have a magic whisk that he obtained from the cave.

References to Past Series[]

  • It is established in this episode that Strawberry’s family owns a berry farm that Grandberry Jam founded. As Grandberry Jam is based on the original Strawberry Shortcake, it could be a homage to the fact that prior incarnations of Strawberry Shortcake grew berry bushes in a garden.

References[]

  • Parsley is based on AI phone assistants like Siri or Alexa.
  • One of the photos taken at the end of the special features Strawberry’s family posing in a homage to the American Gothic painting by Grant Wood.
  • The second half of the special is an extended shout out to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The “chocolate cake” puzzle is a direct copy of the "Name of God" puzzle, and Indy's final attempt to retrieve the Grail is very directly replicated with Strawberry attempting to retrieve the Berry Guardian’s treasure before the cave collapses.
