Scaryoke is the 17th episode in airing order of Season 2 of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City, and the 5th episode in the official order. It premiered on October 8th, 2022.

Summary[]

Huckleberry Pie finds Fright Fall terrifying – Strawberry Shortcake suggests he focus on the fun instead of the frights!

Plot[]

The episode begins as the Berry Besties prepare the Berryworks for Fright Fall. Orange Blossom makes smoothies, Lemon Meringue and Lime Chiffon carry a pumpkin over to the LemonLime Time cart, where Lemon proceeds to decorate it with spiderwebs with a decoration-firing blaster. She then fires a web at Lime, much to her chagrin. Blueberry Muffin twirls around with a bedsheet ghost on her hand, levitating it onto the top of the Dreamery Creamery.

Cutaway: Strawberry Shortcake explains that she and her Berry Besties are going all-out for their Fright Fall Fright Festival, and everyberry is feeling the spooky spirit.

Huckleberry Pie, meanwhile, is hiding behind his Berryoke Wagon, cowering in fear.

Cutaway: Strawberry corrects her statement to almost everyberry.

Huck climbs out from behind the wagon, while Strawberry approaches him to ask if he's okay. Huck is scared and starts screaming, until he sees that it's just Strawberry. He apologizes, and explains that he and his Berryoke won't be able to help with making the Fright Festival spooky, as he finds the holiday kind of scary. Strawberry Shortcake tries to encourage him to join in, telling him Fright Fall doesn't have to be scary, what matters is that everyberry has fun and buys lots of their terrifying tasty treats, as lightning crackles to emphasize the last statement. Strawberry notices that Huck is terrified again and apologizes, telling him to just focus on the fun instead of the frights. Lime calls out that the customers are arriving and Strawberry rushes over to greet them...only for the crowd to run past the Berry Besties.

Strawberry wonders where everyberry is going, and gets her answer when The Peculiar Purple Pieman begins announcing his own Fright Fall promotional campaign, telling everyberry to "survive the graveyard of losers below" to get his Fright Fall Fright-sclusives: Purple Pumpkin Pies, Purple Pumpkin Muffins, and Purple Pumpkin Smoothies. The Purple Pieman declares purple to be the official color of the holiday. Strawberry takes offense at Pieman's insult, and decides to show everyberry how much more fun the Berry Besties are having downstairs. Everyberry looks at her, confused at how exactly they're going to do that with a customer-less courtyard. A lamp suddenly lights up behind Huck, representing him getting an idea as he recalls Strawberry's previous statement to him, and he rushes off. Bread Pudding asks if anyberry knows what Huck is talking about.

Suddenly, the lights go out. Huck begins playing on his guitar as the Berryoke Wagon activates its stage lights, attracting the attention of the Purple Pieshop customers. Huck, having donned a cape, begins singing about how it's a scary time of year, but to not freak out, as he's got a musical treat: A Scaryoke Night. The Berry Besties join in, with Huck passing the microphone to Blueberry, who sings to let the music flow, and there's no need to be, like, scared since tonight's about feeling free. She passes the microphone to Lemon and Orange, who sing rock and roll as they feel the beat, inviting everyberry to join the party. As the second chorus plays, the customers are all won over and rush down to the courtyard, while Pieman desperately tries to get them to stay. The microphone is passed to Bread and Huck, who sing about having fun and making music underneath the moonlight. They pass the microphone to Lime, Rasperry Tart, and Strawberry, who all sing about how tonight will be unforgettable, and to not miss out. Huck and Strawberry sing as the Berry Besties serve their customers, telling everyberry to join in the Scaryoke, as the party will go on all night, Meanwhile, The Purple Pieman angrily tears down his decorations and slams his door shut.

The song transitions to the final chorus, with the microphone being passed around to the customers, and then back to each of the Berry Besties, while Pieman slams his window shut in defeat. As Strawberry Shortcake dances onstage at the Berryoke Wagon, Huckleberry Pie creeps up to her and shouts "Boo!", startling Strawberry. She smiles at Huck, who claims that he's just getting into the spirit. Huckleberry cackles to himself as the episode ends.

Non-Voiced Appearance[]

Trivia[]

  • Costumes:
    • Strawberry Shortcake: Medieval Witch
    • Orange Blossom: Tangerine Smash
    • Blueberry Muffin: Hippy
    • Lime Chiffon: Ballerina
    • Lemon Meringue: Mad Scientist
    • Huckleberry Pie: He wears a cape. That's kinda it.
    • Raspberry Tart: Princess
    • Bread Pudding: Pirate
  • This is the third fright fall episode after "Ghost of Cupcakes Past" and "Fright Fall".
  • The episode's title is a pun on "karaoke" and "scary", though since karaoke is known as "berryoke" in-universe, it would also be a pun on "berryoke" and "scary".
  • All the Berry Besties get the microphone passed to them. Huckleberry throws it and Blueberry catches it first, then Lemon and Orange, then back to Huck and Bread, then Lime, Raspberry, and Strawberry.
  • It is revealed that Huckleberry Pie has Samhnainophobia, otherwise known as the fear of Halloween (or Fright Fall in his case). As he was not a part of the cast during the Season 1 Fright Fall episodes, it did not come up until now.
  • Sour Grapes disappears halfway through the episode, though given later episodes establish that she's actually generally uninterested in helping Purple Pieman succeed, it's possible she just went home.
    • If one looks closely at Sour Grapes when the Pieman's customers leave, she is smiling as she watches her uncle throw a tantrum over being bested by the Berry Besties.

Continuity[]

  • Bread Pudding's pirate costume includes the Fluffy Chiffon All-Season Multi-Weather Limited Edition Waistcoat he was gifted in "Bread Pudding's New BFF"
  • Orange Blossom is dressed up as her favorite superhero, Tangerine Smash.
  • Orange and Lime's pumpkins from Save the Pumpkins can be seen in the background, indicating that this takes place after that episode.
  • Blueberry once again demonstrates possible supernatural abilities, when she seemingly levitates a bedsheet ghost onto the Dreamery Creamery for a Fright Fall decoration.
  • Strawberry's Spooky Surprise Cake from "Ghost of Cupcakes Past" is seen as one of the treats being sold by the Berry Besties.

References to Past Series[]

  • Lime Chiffon being a ballerina is a reference to her original incarnation from the 1980s, who was also a ballerina.
  • The smoothies Orange Blossom makes in the beginning of the episode are strawberry and orange smoothies, possibly referencing the fact Strawberry Shortcake and Orange Blossom are close friends in every Strawberry Shortcake series.

Error[]

  • In the shots showing the Berry Besties standing in the Berryworks courtyard, the Berryoke Wagon is parked in the top right corner. However, when Huck gets his idea to hold a Scaryoke Night, he rushes off to the left, which is where the entrance is.
