Rainbow Sherbet is a character introduced in the 2003 episode, The Costume Party. She is the captain of the Rainbow Float, which voyages on the Punch Bowl Pond. She has a pet toucan named Triple Ripple. She is voiced by Laura Grimm.[1] Her best friend is Blueberry Muffin. Rainbow is also a talented trumpet player ("Playing to Beat the Band").

General[]

Rainbow Sherbet is a nautical adventurer, captain of the Rainbow Float, her own ornate paddleboat that voyages on the Punch Bowl Pond. She is knowledgeable about sailing, ships, currents, and the stars. Rainbow is a tomboy who loves adventure. She likes to hang out with Blueberry Muffin.

However, a conflict caused by Peppermint Fizz very nearly caused her to leave Strawberryland. Strawberry Shortcake quickly created an elaborate scheme around a costume party (hence the title of the episode) to resolve the issue and convinced Rainbow Sherbet to stay, now she is friends with Peppermint. Though Peppermint might not think well of her after Playing to Beat the Band when Rainbow tricked her.

Rainbow has a princess alter-ego of a tomboy Rapunzel nicknamed "Rap". Sour Grapes is her friend in this alternate universe/story, as Professor Grapes, her strict but caring teacher.

Appearance[]

Rainbow has curly purple hair and matching eyes, in the books and her dolls. In the cartoon, she usually has dark brown eyes. She wears a multicolored sailor hat and scarf. Her outfit also has a pink top with a symbol of an ice cream cone, underneath it is a rainbow striped shirt with long sleeves (which is simplified into a yellow shirt whose sleeves have pink, green, and blue stripes near the wrists in the cartoon). She also wears blue pants, a purple belt, pink shoes, and yellow socks. In later years, her pants were often replaced with a skirt in books and artwork.

Pets[]

Her pet toucan is Triple Ripple.

Trivia[]

  • Rainbow Sherbet, along with many other characters like Ginger Snap and Peppermint Fizz, were not brought back for Strawberry Shortcake's Berry Bitty Adventures. This is in large part due to American Greetings' "fruit forward" direction they took during the Berry Bitty era, which focused more on the fruit-themed characters to avoid promoting unhealthy foods.
  • Despite her name being spelled as “sherbet”, it’s pronounced with the alternate “sherbert” spelling.
  • Her Playmates dolls made her Tutti Frutti scented instead of specifically rainbow sherbet. One of these dolls, a Candy Pop doll, also gives her an additional bubblegum scent.
  • She is paired with the filly Butter Pecan.
  • She uses sailor slang, such as "grub" (food) and "Ahoy".
  • Rainbow is the only other character to be the main character in a Fairy Tale episode aside from Strawberry Shortcake, getting to play Rapunzel in A Princess Named Rap. Strawberry still appears in a major role as Maid Strawberry, however.
