Mint-eresting (originally titled "Mint-Interesting") is the 26th episode of the first season of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry In The Big City. It premiered on March 5th, 2022.
Summary[]
Strawberry and friends work together to keep Clint – the overgrown mint plant – in line, but Blueberry Muffin doesn’t make it easy.
Plot[]
The episode begins with a baking timer going off, as Strawberry Shortcake removes a fresh choco-mint pie from her Very Berry Oven and presents it to her friends. She tells them that she just needs to clip some leaves from her mint plant as a garnish, and heads up to her truck's roof garden. Strawberry starts screaming, which worries her friends. They all climb onto the roof as well to see Strawberry holding an overgrown mess of mint vines, who then asks how this happened. Lime Chiffon tells Strawberry that mint leaves grow fast, and can grow over anything in its path if not carefully tended to. Lemon Meringue tells Strawberry that she can take care of the plant, and Lime asks what she'll use, suggesting clippers. Lemon says it's something like that, as she imagines herself using an electric flamethrower whilst laughing maniacally. She tells her friends that she'll use her Incine-Ray 5000 and leaves to get it. Orange Blossom gets excited, having previously seen Lemon use it, and follows Lemon asking to help her.
Strawberry notes that she doesn't see this ending well, and Lime says that there are less destructive ways to take care of an overgrown plant. Blueberry Muffin chimes in, saying that Clint would never forgive himself if anything had happened to his friends. Lime and Strawberry stare at her, confused, and the latter asks who Clint is. Blueberry answers that he's the mint, as she reminds the others that she speaks plant, implying Clint told Blueberry his name. Lime and Strawberry stare at her, confused and weirded out.
Cutaway: Lime Chiffon says she thinks she can speak for all plants when she says that plants don't speak.
Lime and Strawberry sit upon the Extraordinary Berry's roof as they read through Farmer Fig's latest guide to gardening. Lime tells Strawberry the first thing they need to do is trim the vines. Lime immediately holds up a pair of garden shears and goes to cut the vines, when Blueberry rushes over, shielding the vines, and tells Lime that she can't cut his vines now... because Clint's playing rock paper scissors. Blueberry compliments Clint for winning another round, and consoles "Gerald", another mint, agreeing that a paper wouldn't actually beat a rock in real life. Lime walks off in annoyance.
Lime consults Farmer Fig's guide again. She explains that the guide says to spray a solution of salt, soap and vinegar onto the mint, which can tame unwanted plant growth, as she and Strawberry prepare the mixture. Blueberry plays a guitar singing for the plant, asking Clint what they should do, as Lime sneaks up to spray the mint. Blueberry then stops Lime, not even looking in her direction as she continues singing, telling her that she's going to make Clint sad because the solution smells bad and throws it away. Lime, frustrated, walks off once more.
Cutaway: Blueberry says that Clint told her she should go on tour, and calls him a charmer.
Lime complains to Strawberry that they'll never remove the mint vines if Blueberry keeps shooting down her ideas. Strawberry suggests asking Blueberry what she thinks and Lime incredulously points out that Blueberry thinks she can speak plant. Strawberry tells her that she doesn't always have to agree with her friends, but she should at least listen to them. Lime gives up and relents, going back up to the garden. Blueberry whispers to Clint to not worry, as she's thinking of something. Lime walks up to Blueberry and reluctantly asks her what she thinks they should do. Blueberry says it's not up to her, and to ask Clint as she leans in to hear what he has to say. Lime rolls her eyes, and begins to cite another tip from Farmer Fig's guide. The two end up repeating the exact same idea, to move the plant to its own pot, which surprises Lime. She asks Blueberry if she just agreed with Farmer Fig, which she denies, and says that Clint agreed with Farmer Fig. She also tells Lime that Clint said he'd be most comfortable if Lime did the digging and that the plant trusts her because she's smart, as she hands Lime a trowel.
Lime puts down a pot, trowel, and garden shears. She begins to move the mint to the pot with Blueberry's assistance, the scene playing out like a surgery procedure. Lime cuts off one last piece of mint leaves and hands it to Blueberry. She gives the mint leaves to Strawberry, who thanks Clint for the leaves as she climbs back down to her kitchen. Blueberry says goodbye to Clint and hops off the roof. As Lime begins to leave, she says she still doesn't believe that plants can't talk, but tells Clint it was nice to think she was smart and thanks him. Seemingly in response, Clint rustles in the pot, shocking Lime. Blueberry pops back up and expresses approval.
Strawberry finishes decorating the choco-mint pie and gives a slice to Lime and Blueberry. At that moment Lemon and Orange arrive, the former wielding the Incine-Ray 5000, ready to incinerate the plant. Strawberry tells the two that Lime and Blueberry already took care of the mint overgrowth, and offers to give pie to Lemon and Orange. Lemon accepts, telling Orange to throw the pie, who complies as Lemon incinerates the slice in the air. Strawberry tells Lemon she meant for her to eat it. Lemon says she loves the smell of burnt pie in the morning as she eats a chunk of the burnt pie, and asks her friends if any of them want their pies incinerated, to which Strawberry, Lime, and Blueberry hold away their pies in concern. Lemon laughs maniacally as she continues firing the Incine-Ray 5000, ending the episode.

Trivia[]
- This is the first time where we get to see the garden on Strawberry's truck since "Berry In The Big City Part 2".
- Blueberry is shown to play the mandolin in this episode.
- While Farmer Fig is only heard of via his gardening guidebook, it isn't explicitly confirmed if he's the author or a mascot for the books.
- Mint plants are actually fast growers, and considered some of the easiest plants to grow, but are noted to overgrow easily if not maintained. Likewise, the methods Lime suggested to deal with the mint are actually real tips for dealing with unwanted plant growth.
Continuity[]
- Blueberry's "ability" to communicate with nature returns from "Go For the Goldenberry", having first been shown when she befriended and had a conversation with a pigeon. This episode introduces her "ability" to talk to plants, which will become the primary gag regarding this aspect of Blueberry in future episodes.
- Lime Chiffon and Blueberry Muffin once again have a disagreement with one another over Lime's belief in solid facts and Blueberry's belief is mysticism. This type of conflict happened before in "A Berryworks Mystery".
References[]
- Lemon's Incine-ray 5000 is likely based off the Proton Packs from Ghostbusters.
- After Lemon incinerates her pie slice, she says "I love the smell of burnt pie in the morning". This is a reference to the iconic "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" line from the 1979 film, Apocalypse Now.
Errors[]
- When Lemon asks if any of the girls want their pies incinerated, she says anybody instead of anyberry. The word "anyberry" has been used in prior episodes.
