The Lucky Spoon is Strawberry Shortcake's trusty mixing spoon in Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City. It is an old family heirloom passed down from baker to baker.
General Information[]
The Lucky Spoon is, as its name suggests, a mixing spoon. Initially, it appeared to be an ordinary antique heirloom Grandberry Jam used to own before passing it down to Aunt Praline, and Praline passed it down to Strawberry Shortcake. The spoon first appeared in Legend Of The Spoon, where Strawberry learned to wield it from Aunt Praline, and it quickly became her primary cooking utensil.
Throughout the series, it was implied that there was more to the spoon than initially let on. The wielders of the spoon all recognized something about it that made it special, almost like it was magic. And several events occurred due to a stroke of good luck, such as Orange Blossom getting to cameo in a Tangerine Smash movie, seemingly due to the spoon's interference. During Strawberry Shortcake’s Perfect Holiday, Cinnamon Swirl recognized the spoon, though she chose not to elaborate further.
In Strawberry's Spiritual Swirliverse, the spoon seems to act as a sort of spiritual advisor to her, imparting on her valuable lessons that she needed to hear that day. One of it's lessons, that in order to succeed, one needs to try and fail, ended up being a crucial step in helping Strawberry finally overcome her anxieties with making strawberry shortcake.
Eventually, when Strawberry and her Berry Besties took a summer vacation to Berryville, the secrets of the Lucky Spoon were revealed. It was indeed magical, and was created by the Berry Guardians long ago, hidden in a cave near the Berryville river. During a drought, Grandberry Jam uncovered the cave along with her friends, and would end up getting the spoon as a gift for completing the cave's trials.
Appearance[]
The Lucky Spoon is a mixing spoon. The spoon's bowl is shaped like a strawberry, with green "leaves" on the neck, a sparkly pink handle surrounded by two gold rings on both sides, and another smaller strawberry on the end.
In Strawberry's dreams, the spoon has giant googly eyes and buckteeth on the bowl/face, and spindly pink arms with white gloves from the handle.
Trivia[]
- Retroactively, after it was revealed to be a magic artifact created by the Berry Guardians, this makes the Lucky Spoon the biggest recurring magical element in the entire series.
- The Lucky Spoon in Strawberry's Swirliverse has a southern accent. It is likely a subconscious thing due to Strawberry's country roots.
