
Joanellen "Joan/Joanie" Gerber (July 29, 1935 – August 22, 2011) was an American voice actress. She was the first voice of Blueberry Muffin, Apricot, and Sour Grapes.
Biography[]
Joan Gerber was born on July 29th, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan.
Despite being a prolific voice actress who lent her voice to many famous cartoons, very little is known about Joan's life. In 1957, she married a man named Frank Dowse, with whom she had one daughter. They divorced in 1961.
Joan first began work as a voice actress in 1959, providing additional voices for "Matty's Funday Funnies". Afterward, she became a very prolific actress for many different shows, such as "The Pink Panther Show", "Sesame Street", "The New Scooby-Doo Movies", and many Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Some more specific voice roles include Mrs. Zuckerman in "Charlotte's Web (1973)", Ozma in "Thanksgiving in the Land of Oz", Shreeka in the 1987 "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" cartoon, and Helga in "Talespin". She is best known for her role as Mrs. Beakley in the 1987 "Ducktales" cartoon. Her final voice acting role before she retired was in the 2003 "Duck Dodgers" cartoon as Klunkin Woman.
In 1980, Joan became the voice of Blueberry Muffin in The World of Strawberry Shortcake. In 1981, she became the voice of Apricot in Strawberry Shortcake in Big Apple City. And in 1982, Joan voiced Sour Grapes and Souffle Skunk in Strawberry Shortcake: Pets on Parade. She would be succeeded as the voices of Blueberry Muffin and Sour Grapes in 1983 by Susan Roman and Jeri Craden, respectively. In 2007, Joan was succeeded as the voice of Apricot by an unknown actress.
Joan Gerber passed away on August 22, 2011, at the age of 76.
