Summary[]
Convinced that Strawberry Shortcake forgot her Birthday, Custard enlists the help of the other pets to help her out.
Plot[]
Strawberry Shortcake opens her Very Berry Oven to place a batch of cupcakes onto a rack and closes it. She walks over to her mixing bowl next to Custard and begins stirring. She thanks Custard for helping, as she has to bake a very important cupcake order. Custard looks at the calendar and notices that it's her birthday today. She looks back at Strawberry, putting on a party hat and trying to get her owner's attention, meowing "happy birthday" while pointing at the calendar. She runs over to Strawberry right as she's opening a can, brushing against her, but Strawberry puts her aside. Strawberry tells Custard that she has to focus on the cupcake order before tomorrow, as she needs it to be "purr-fect", sprinkling the can's contents into the mixing bowl.
Custard meows in sadness and leaps out of the Extraordinary Berry, sulking around the Berryworks. She walks past Orange Blossom's cart as she's serving a customer, while Pupcake balances on an orange. Pupcake notices Custard's sad demeanor and begins following her. As Custard and Pupcake walk past Blueberry Muffin meditating near her ice cream cart, Cheesecake looks up from her clipboard and notices the two pets, following them as well. The three walk past the LemonLime TIme cart, where Parfait and Frappe are hanging out on the nearby table. Parfait flies off to follow them, before doubling back to grab Frappe.
Parfait drops Frappe in front of Custard, startling her, Pupcake and Cheesecake. He flies down to the ground and asks Custard what's wrong. Custard meows her situation to the other Berryworks Pets, lamenting that Strawberry forgot her birthday. The other pets try to console her, but Custard just meows sadly and walks away. Cheesecake immediately takes charge, telling the other pets they need to help Custard. The four pets agree and do a team hand-stack, running off to get their owners' attention.
Parfait flies over to Lime Chiffon, who's reading at the LemonLime table. Parfait squawks Custard's name, getting Lime's attention. She closes her book and declares another mystery is afoot. Pupcake jumps at Orange Blossom, causing her to drop a strawberry she was about to put in a blender. Custard frantically barks and jumps around, nudging the strawberry towards Orange, causing her to guess it has something to do with Strawberry Shortcake. Cheesecake jumps up on the Dreamery Creamery and gets Blueberry Muffin's attention while she was putting blueberries in a bowl. Blueberry immediately guesses Cheesecake is trying to do charades and begins playing along. Blueberry guesses two words, before correcting it to one word, and guessing the word sounds like "day". Cheesecake does several gestures and puts on a party hat, trying to mime out "birthday". Blueberry gasps... and guesses "Earth Day". Cheesecake rolls her eyes, reluctantly deciding it's close enough. Frappe hops onto the LemonLime cart while Lemon Meringue is performing maintenance on the cart's satellite dish, ribbiting to get her attention. Frappe slowly blinks out of sync, and Lemon immediately identifies that someone forgot something.
Custard is shown sitting on the circular bench that surrounds the cupcake topiary in the center of the Berryworks. The girls and the other pets walk up to her. Cheesecake points at the strawberry Pupcake gave to Orange, who guesses "Strawberry". She points to Lemon and her head, prompting Lemon to guess "forgot". Cheesecake then points to Lime and Custard, prompting Lime to say "Custard". She lastly points to Blueberry and gestures upward, prompting Blueberry to guess "Earth Day" and do her pirouette again. Pupcake and Custard stare at Blueberry in confusion while Cheesecake facepalms. Lemon confusedly asks if Custard has her own Earth Day, to which Lime points out there's only one Earth Day. Blueberry adds that she thinks every day should be Earth Day. Parfait squawks in frustration and says the word "birthday" which makes Lime realize that Strawberry forgot Custard's birthday. The girls all express their sympathy towards Custard.
The scene transitions to Strawberry placing the completed batch of cupcakes on the windowsill of her truck, but when she looks up she's startled by the other girls, the pets, and the still sad Custard, who stare at her in disappointment. Orange confronts Strawberry, telling her she forgot Custard's birthday, but Strawberry is just confused. She then takes out the calendar and asks if the girls are referring to the birthday that's happening tomorrow. The girls and the other pets are shocked and stare at Custard, who grins and tugs her collar in embarrassment. Strawberry explains everything to Custard, pointing out that she said the cupcakes needed to be "purr-fect", and that the special ingredient in the cupcakes was cat food, holding up the can from earlier. She sprinkles it onto the cupcakes as Custard jumps into her arms, happily brushing against her owner. Lemon takes one of the cupcakes and begins to eat it, but Lime stops her, pointing out it has cat food all over it. Lemon just shrugs and eats it anyway as Lime stares on in disgust. Lemon notes the cupcakes are crunchy and burps.
Strawberry explains she was going to throw a surprise party for Custard tomorrow, but seeing as how everyberry is already here, she decides to hold the party today. Strawberry places a candle in one of the cupcakes and a party hat on Custard's head, wishing her cat a happy birthday. The Berry Besties and the Berryworks Pets begin dancing around in celebration. Lemon then grabs another cupcake and takes a bite, which gets Lime's attention as she yells at Lemon to stop eating those. Lemon just shrugs again.

References in Other Media[]
- In the R-rated M. Night Shamaylan horror movie, "Knock at the Cabin", this episode and Oven Trouble can be seen playing on the T.V,, having been turned on to calm down Wen when her fathers Andrew and Eric were knocked out. It continues playing as the main antagonist, Leonard, gives his speech to the family. His assessment of the show being fun and educational, while instilling in kids a sense of empathy and understanding is meant to play into the irony of the fact he and his associates took a family hostage.
- This makes Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City a rare example of a non-1980s Strawberry Shortcake series being referenced in another work.
Errors[]
- When Strawberry first put the completed cupcakes on the windowsill, the cupcakes had the cat food sprinkles. Later, when Strawberry goes to sprinkle the cat food on the cupcakes, the cupcakes have no cat food on them.
