Go For the Goldenberry (originally titled "The Golden Berry Competition") is the 24th episode of the first season of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry In The Big City. It premieres on February 19th, 2022.
Summary[]
Everyone at The Berryworks competes to win the secret prize inside of the Golden Berry with an unlikely winner coming out on top…
Plot[]
The episode begins with everyberry in the Berryworks preparing for an upcoming event, gathered around a large, berry-shaped golden case in the middle of the courtyard.
Cutaway: Strawberry Shortcake says the best thing about living in Big Apple City is that there is always something amazing happening, like how today, the Berryworks is holding a "Goldenberry Challenge". Strawberry admits she doesn't actually know what it is, but she thinks it sounds cool and she is determined to win.
Bread Pudding explains the rules for the Goldenberry Challenge. Everyberry participating will touch the Goldenberry, whoever breaks contact with it for any reason is automatically eliminated, and whoever is the last one touching it wins the secret prize inside. Everyberry cheers, including the Berryworks pets, as Frappe notices a fly buzzing nearby and begins chasing after it. Bread counts down to three, and everyberry places their hands on the Goldenberry.
A short time lapse plays, as more and more berries drop out of the competition, until only the Berry Besties remain. Orange Blossom notices this, and tells the girls that they're all awesome. Strawberry, tired, almost stops touching the Goldenberry until Orange playfully asks her if she's ready to give up, to which Strawberry snaps awake and declares she isn't as she tightly hugs the Goldenberry. Strawberry then begins wondering what's inside the Goldenberry, and asks her friends what they think.
Lime Chiffon says she thinks it's an endless supply of books. Her fantasy sequence has her stand in front of the Goldenberry, which opens to reveal a large stack of books. The books, however, continue to grow in number, and begin flooding the area and sweep Lime away. Lime, laying amongst the books, says she's going to need more bookmarks.
Orange is incredulous at Lime's answer, and says she thinks it's going to be a Slicer ZX Kiwisaki dirt bike. Her fantasy sequence has her riding the dirt bike, before cutting back to reality, showing Orange humming action music to herself as she imagines herself with the bike. Orange then notices her friends all staring at her, and sheepishly apologizes.
Lemon Meringue tells Orange that there's no way a Kiwisaki bike can fit inside the Goldenberry. But she does know something that can: sparkberries. Her fantasy sequence has her explain that she plans on using the sparkberries to fuel her greatest invention: The Machine Machine, a machine that creates smaller, identical machines. Lemon laughs maniacally as she imagines herself with all these machines, until she notices that all her friends are staring at her. Orange asks her what the smaller machines do and Lemon tells her that she'll get back to her on that.
Blueberry Muffin thinks that there's going to be a perfect song. Her fantasy sequence has her meditating in front of the Goldenberry, which opens to begin playing a New Age-style tune. Orange asks Blueberry if there's something like a speaker inside playing the song, but Blueberry says no, explaining that it's just the song, which will only play once and then disappear forever.
Lime says it's an... interesting theory, and asks Strawberry what does she think is inside of it. Strawberry gets excited and begins thinking of answers as her fantasy sequence plays out. Strawberry thinks it's going to be sprinkles, before changing her mind to chocolate chips, and then settles on "sprinkle chips". Strawberry imagines herself making an angel in the chocolate sprinkles before it cuts back to reality, where Strawberry continues to think of what could be inside, only to realize she has accidentally let go of the Goldenberry.
Lime gasps, putting her hands to her head, and realizes she accidentally let go of it too. Lemon laughs at Lime, accidentally losing her balance and begins to fall off the Goldenberry. Orange immediately reacts and dives to save Lemon, both letting go of the Goldenberry as well, to which both express disappointment. Strawberry guesses that Blueberry is the winner, until the girls look over to the Goldenberry and see that Blueberry isn't there. Blueberry was actually having a conversation with a pigeon she befriended the entire time, and dropped out of the competition a while ago. She tells her friends that the pigeon she was talking to is very interesting.
Bread announces that, since there's no clear winner, the prize will go to the M.C. (aka, himself) by default. However, Blueberry (with the pigeon resting on her head) points out that someberry did win, pointing at the Goldenberry, where Frappe had been climbing on it the entire time while chasing the fly from earlier. Lemon is surprised Frappe had been there the whole time, while Strawberry lampshades that she can't believe none of them noticed until now. Lime points out to Bread that he did say whoever is the last one left touching the Goldenberry is the winner. Bread groans and relents, reluctantly declaring Frappe the winner. Orange decides it's time for them to see what's actually inside the Goldenberry.
The Berry Besties (and Bread) gather around the Goldenberry, as it opens to reveal a smaller container inside. The smaller container begins to open...before anticlimactically popping open to reveal a gift card to Guava Spava. All the girls express disappointment, while Lime tries to feign interest, and Bread is the only one who's actually excited at the prize. Blueberry tells her friends (and Bread) that although a gift card may not be what they all wanted, but maybe it's exactly what Frappe wanted. Bread Pudding, incredulous, asks Blueberry what a frog could possibly want with a gift card to a spa.
The episode then transitions to Frappe at Guava Spava getting a massage, and having cucumber slices placed over his eyes as he relaxes. Frappe eats one of the cucumbers as the episode ends.

Trivia[]
- The official title, "Go For the Goldenberry", is a play on the phrase "Go for the gold", which means to aim for the highest reward or goal.
- The titular Golden Berry is named after the Physalis peruviana[1] fruit native to Peru and Chile, of which "goldenberry" is one of the common English names it is referred to. It is otherwise known as the Cape gooseberry and Peruvian groundcherry.
- Even if Frappe didn't end up winning the competition, Lemon and Orange would've ended up tying anyways as both let go of the Golden Berry at the same time.
- This episode introduces Blueberry's "ability" to communicate with nature, which will become a recurring gag for the series. While she only talks to a pigeon in this episode, later episodes will establish she can "communicate" with plants as well.
- Pupcake and Cheesecake use pre-recorded audio for their brief appearance in this episode. Both of their audio comes from It's My Purr-ty.
- This episode introduces a new location in Big Apple City called Guava Spava, however this episode is the only time it's seen or mentioned.
References[]
- Orange Blossom's fantasy of what the prize would be, a Kiwisaki dirt bike, is a reference to the real-life Kawasaki bicycles.[2]
