Fright Fall is the 8th episode of the first season of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City. It premiered on October 23rd, 2021.
Summary[]
Strawberry Shortcake and her friends go to a party, but embarrassingly, Strawberry missed the memo about the dress code…
Plot[]
Strawberry Shortcake stares at her reflection in her Very Berry Oven, feeling her scarecrow costume is perfect for Fright Fall, making a joke about Fright Fall being scary and how scarecrows literally scare crows. She asks Custard if she agrees, who is clearly indignant about having to wear her crow costume. Custard meows in discontent and flails her paws in an attempt to remove the costume.
Cutaway: Strawberry mentions that she overheard Raspberry Tart and her friends claim that Strawberry wouldn't even wear a costume to the Annual Fright Fall Ball, and says that they clearly don't know anything about her.
Strawberry and Custard get to the party, declaring that no other berry does Fright Fall like they do, before Strawberry's tone changes from excited to shocked/embarrassed when she sees that noberry else is dressed up. Orange Blossom and the other Berry Besties run up to Strawberry, shocked, and ask her what she's wearing. Strawberry brings up that it's the Fright Fall Ball, asking why noberry else is wearing a costume. Lime Chiffon corrects Strawberry, telling her it's actually Peach Trifle's Fall Ball. Strawberry is confused and mentions that Raspberry told her what the party was, before Raspberry Tart starts laughing, she and Sour Grapes standing behind Strawberry the whole time. Raspberry sarcastically compliments Strawberry's costume, telling her she's the "scariest" one there, laughing as she and Sour walk away. Strawberry and Lemon Meringue watch them leave, the latter telling Strawberry she really should stop listening to them as she takes another bite of her sandwich. A voice from offscreen is heard asking what's going on, the crowd parting to reveal a woman.
The woman walks up to Strawberry and introduces herself as Peach Trifle, the hostess of the Ball, and asks Strawberry who she is. Strawberry awkwardly introduces herself to Peach, saying that she's a scarecrow and Custard is her crow, the latter walking away still mad. Strawberry tells Peach that the two are dressed up for Fright Fall, awkwardly saying "ta-da". Peach tells Strawberry that "costumes and cheap scares" aren't what she and her parties are known for, claiming she throws the grandest parties in Big Apple City and that everyberry loves them. The scene immediately cuts to show all the attendees are bored with the party, with one guest falling asleep in the punch bowl. Strawberry notices this, and tells Peach no offense, but her parties could probably use "costumes and cheap scares", eliciting an audible gasp from everyberry, as Peach Trifle takes offense at the comment. Strawberry tells Peach it couldn't hurt to try, as lightning flashes and the screen goes black.
The song "Fright Fall Night" begins, with Strawberry singing about Fright Fall, and slowly convincing her friends, Peach Trifle, and the others to participate in the holiday. Her friends improvise some costumes with stuff at the party and get the other attendees to join in, even Sour Grapes tries to participate before Raspberry stops her. Peach Trifle is eventually won over, wearing a tablecloth as a cape and dancing along with the girls. The song ends with the girls, Peach, and the other guests singing along and having fun.
Peach Trifle announces that she's ending the Fall Ball, and that starting this year forward she'll host the Frightful Fright-tacular. Everyberry celebrates, Sour Grapes cheers too, but immediately stops when Raspberry angrily glares at her. The episode ends with Strawberry and her Berry Besties celebrating, as Lemon howls.

Trivia[]
- This episode was nominated for the 2022 Leo Awards for Best Musical Score in an animated series. This makes it the second Strawberry Shortcake episode to be nominated for an award, after Berry Bounty Banquet with the GLAAD Media Awards for Outstanding Children's Programming.
- The nomination included both Daniel Ingram and Trevor Hoffmann, the latter being an additional composer, though he didn't work on Fright Fall Night. Curiously, David Corman is left out of the nomination despite also being an additional composer. It is possible the reason for this was due to the nomination being made during Season 2, when Trevor Hoffmann was promoted to being a main composer alongside Daniel Ingram.
- This is the second Halloween episode of the series, the first being Ghost of Cupcakes Past.
- This is Peach Trifle's first speaking and debut episode.
- Raspberry's friend group is established to be called the "Mean Berries" by Strawberry and her friends.

References[]
- The name Strawberry gave to Raspberry's friends, the Mean Berries, might be a reference to the popular film/musical Mean Girls, which likewise features a girl who recently moved to the city and has to put up with a trio of bullies.
Errors[]
- When she teases Strawberry Shortcake about the latter's scarecrow costume, Raspberry's arms clip through each other.
- During the second verse of “Fright Fall Night”, Peach Trifle is briefly seen wearing her cape, however the scene where she puts it on is later in the episode, before the final part of the song.
