Strawberry Shortcake Wiki

Strawberry Shortcake: Musical Match-Ups is a 1983 puzzle video game developed and published by Parker Brothers for the Atari 2600. It is the first game in the Strawberry Shortcake video game series, and the only game to feature the 1980s incarnation of the character.

Plot[]

Strawberry Shortcake and her friends were about to put up a musical show when the Purple Pieman came in and cast an evil spell on everyone, even himself, causing their bodies to become mixed up.

Gameplay[]

Players are tasked to rearrange scrambled Strawberryland characters within a given time limit, indicated by Mr. Sun on top of the screen as he goes eastward. If a character is correctly formed, he/she will dance and a theme song will play; parts of theme songs from the characters on screen will play should an incomplete character be formed.

Trivia[]

  • The game was programmed by Dawn Stockbridge, who also did work on a conversion of Frogger for the Atari 8-Bit among other things.
  • This was the only Strawberry Shortcake game to be released during the 1980s era. It wasn't until the release of Strawberry Shortcake: Amazing Cookie Party that subsequent games based on the series were made for various platforms.
  • A MESS emulation of Musical Match-Ups was published on the Internet Archive as a playable browser game, which was later featured on the official Strawberry Shortcake YouTube page in a throwback video.
