Bread Pudding's New BFF is the 36th episode of the first season of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry In The Big City. It premiered on May 14th, 2022.
Summary[]
Lime Chiffon’s dad is a major fashion designer. Bread Pudding is a huge fan and butters up his “new bestie” Lime in order to meet him.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Strawberry Shortcake and Lime Chiffon drinking juice together, when Bread Pudding calls out Lime's name, much to her annoyance. He bumps Strawberry away and tells Lime to get rid of her "basic bev", tossing away her drink, and to try out the elderflower lemon icee from Peels o' Plenty, which he considers the best drink cart in Big Apple City. Bread preemptively welcomes her as he walks away. Strawberry gets up from the ground and asks Lime what that was about, and Lime explains that Bread has been acting really weird all week.
A flashback occurs to show the past week. Lime and Lemon Meringue are chatting, when Bread suddenly interrupts to give Lime new hairties, since they're less "blech" than her regular ones, preemptively welcoming her as he leaves. Later, Lime is reading a book on a bench, when Bread suddenly pops out of the bush behind her, throws away her book, and hands her a different one. Lime sees it's The History of Doorstops, and Bread explains it's because "books are [her] thing", preemptively welcoming her as he leaves. Even later, Bread pops out of the courtyard topiary when Lime Chiffon walks by, startling her. He tells her she has to up her frame game, and gives her new shutter shades. Lime tries to explain that she has a really strong prescription, and stumbles away, while Bread tries on her glasses but is disoriented by the lenses, falling to the floor. He weakly preemptively welcomes her as he lies on the floor in pain.
Strawberry puts together that Bread's trying to be nice, which Lime finds to be even scarier. Strawberry decides to get to the bottom of the situation.
Bread Pudding stares at a pile of garbage in distain as he writes on his clipboard. He begins walking away when he's suddenly confronted by Strawberry Shortcake, startling him. She tells him that he's being nice to Lime in a weird snooty way, and asks him why he's doing this. Bread asks her to clarify. Strawberry begins explaining that she knows he and the other Mean Berries don't like her, but she's then interrupted by Bread being unamused at the nickname she gave to him and his friends. Bread explains to Strawberry that he's a huge "Lime Chif-fan", since she's the only other berry at the Berryworks with any sense of style. He notes that it's not surprising, given that one of Lime's dads is Fluffy Chiffon, the biggest fashion designer in Big Apple City. Bread asks Strawberry if she knew that, and Strawberry hesitantly says she knew that.
Cutaway: Strawberry Shortcake admits she did not know that.
Bread Pudding continues to explain that Fluffy Chiffon recently released the "Fluffy Chiffon All-Season Multi-Weather Limited Edition Waistcoat", but he still can't get one despite having the best fashion connections in the city.
A brief flashback occurs showing Bread Pudding visiting various boutiques, all of whom either don't have the waistcoat, or do have it but won't give it to him, much to Bread's disappointment.
Strawberry sums up the situation, asking Bread if he's just using a sweet, smart berry like Lime to get some vest. Bread pedantically corrects her, saying he did some nice stuff for Lime, a berry he could be friends with, so she would be nice and get him a waistcoat. Strawberry points out the flaw in Bread's plan by pointing out how bad his "nice stuff" was. The Lemon Icee from earlier was from a rival juice cart, the book he gave her is something she wouldn't be interested in reading, the shutter glasses she literally can't wear since she has prescription glasses, and he insulted her hairties while giving her the new ones. Bread defends the last one, asking Strawberry if she's seen Lime's hairties before.
Strawberry Shortcake suggests that Lime would help Bread Pudding if he was just honest, but Bread laughs at the idea. He asks why Lime would help him get the waistcoat her father designed if he asked her, despite barely knowing her. Strawberry answers that it's just how friendships work, and if he really thinks he'd like to be friends with Lime, then he should actually try being her friend. Strawberry tells Bread to trust her, since she's really good at friendship. The two walk away, revealing that Lime had been sitting on the bench behind them, overhearing the entire conversation.
As Lime Chiffon serves herself a drink, Bread Pudding greets Lime and awkwardly asks her what drink she would recommend. Lime sarcastically asks him if he's sure he doesn't want a drink from Peels o' Plenty, and Bread apologizes for that. He also apologizes for the book, which Lime accepts and begins to continue talking, but Bread interrupts her to continue apologizing. He tells Lime that if she likes the shutter glasses, he can get her lense prescription put in them. Lime tries to say something, but Bread continues his apology, telling her that her hair is "fab" and the new hairties would show it off more, but her current ones aren't "blech". Lime tries to say something again, but Bread continues talking. He tells Lime that all of what he did was so she would help him get her dad's new waistcoat, but that he's also a big "Lime Chif-fan", since she's so,,,her.
Lime Chiffon is touched, but asks Bread Pudding why he's always so..him. Bread confesses that he wasn't always a trendsetter, that he used to be shy and a tad klutzy, and that he found it easier to make fun of other berries before they could make fun of him. Bread then mentions that someberry said he should try being honest, and tells Lime he doesn't care about the waistcoat anymore, and wants to get to know her better. Lime tells Bread to look behind him, revealing Fluffy Chiffon is standing near them. Bread is shocked and falls to the ground, and Fluffy asks him if he's okay, as Bread tries to stammer out a response. Lime introduces her dad and Bread to each other, and Fluffy realizes that the waistcoat is meant for Bread, giving it to him. Bread is even more shocked, and asks Lime why she's doing this. Lime explains to Bread that she overheard his chat with Strawberry. She admits she'd like to get to know him better too, as she does find him funny when he's not being snooty. Lime then tells Bread to try the waistcoat on, and his eyes shimmer with joy.
Bread Pudding begins posing with the waistcoat, until Fluffy Chiffon tells Bread that he's wearing it backwards. Bread quickly corrects it, and he, Lime Chiffon, and Fluffy all laugh together. The episode ends with Strawberry, who had been sitting nearby with an elderflower lemon icee, telling Custard that she was right about being good at friendship, as Lime and Bread fully cement theirs.

- Fluffy Chiffon's job is revealed in this episode, and it's established he's a famous fashion designer, which also serves as an explanation for Lime Chiffon's love of fashion.
- This episode is the first to focus on Bread Pudding and give him more sympathetic qualities. Previous episodes where he played a major role would have him as an antagonist.
- Bread Pudding is also revealed to love fashion in this episode, which will become one of his primary character traits in future episodes.
- Both Lime Chiffon and Bread Pudding befriend each other in this episode, becoming the first of the Berry Besties and the Mean Berries to become genuine friends. While Bread seemed to get along with Huckleberry Pie in "Huck's New Job", it's established in later episodes that he still has some lingering dislike for Huck due to his denseness serving as a source of intense frustration.
- Ironically, Lime Chiffon seemed to have the lowest opinion of Bread Pudding out of all the Berry Besties at the beginning of the series, as she regarded him with disgust in the first episode and bluntly told Strawberry to ignore him like everyberry else does.
- Fluffy Chiffon is the first family member of the Berry Besties to appear since "Berry Bounty Banquet".
- If one looks in the background of certain scenes where Strawberry Shortcake and Bread Pudding are talking, Lime Chiffon can be seen reading a book in the background. If one looks even closer, it can be seen that she's reading The History of Doorstops. This might be subtle foreshadowing for Lime actually wanting to befriend Bread too later in the episode, since he's the one who gifted her the book.
Continuity[]
- Bread Pudding describes Lime Chiffon as being "the only other berry around here with any style". This is a nod to her being a fashionista, which was first established in "Be Your Berry Best".
- Strawberry saying she's really good at friendship is a nod to her managing to befriend other berries incredibly quickly in previous episodes, including the other Berry Besties within minutes of introducing themselves. If one really wants to reach, one could claim this is also a meta joke about Strawberry Shortcake being friends with virtually every character in the entire franchise.
- If one looks really closely at the book Lime Chiffon was reading before Bread gave her The History of Doorstops, one can see a girl holding a flashlight while exploring a location. With this in mind, the book is likely a mystery novel, which Lime was established to enjoy in "Who Stole the Pies". Lime was also previously seen reading the book in It's My Purr-ty.
- The book cover has an avocado symbol in the bottom left corner, though it's unknown if this is meant to be the author's signature or a symbol for the book series.
Errors[]
- For some reason, Omari Newton is credited for voicing the male Boutique Owners, while the actors for the female Boutique Owners aren't credited. If one listens closely to the third Boutique Owner, she sounds like Aunt Praline, which means Ana Sani likely voiced her. The first Boutique Owner is harder to identify, but assuming a different voice actor was used for each owner, it can be inferred that Margarita Valderrama voiced her.
- Despite being called "Boutique Owner" in the credits for the episode, the Netflix subtitles refer to them as "clerks".
