Blueberry Brain Freeze (originally titled "Blueberry is Frozen") is the 22nd episode of the first season of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry In The Big City. It premiered on January 29th, 2022.
Summary[]
Blueberry Muffin struggles to create a new ice cream flavour to go with Strawberry Shortcake’s new dessert, but then finds inspiration in the most unlikely of places.
Plot[]
Blueberry Muffin is at her cart, trying out different combos of ice cream. She feels "chocolate and rum raisin" isn't unique, while "pineapple and grass" is too sour.
Cutaway: Blueberry says that coming up with unique ice cream flavors isn't easy, and in order to do so, you have to clear your mind and let the universe guide you to an idea that's truly "taste-tastic".
Blueberry tries a combination of "caramel and relish" ice cream, and gags at the horrible taste.
Cutaway: Blueberry admits that some days the universe isn't very helpful.
Blueberry begins trying different ice cream flavors at a rapidly fastening pace, until she suddenly stops. The many flavors and intense cold ended up overwhelming her, causing her to experience a brain freeze, and literally freezing in place. Cheesecake sighs, tossing away her clipboard as she tries to revive her owner.
Strawberry Shortcake then runs up to the Dreamery Creamery. She begins asking Blueberry for help with her butter cake recipe, feeling ice cream could help bolster it. She mentions it's a vanilla butter cake, so the only ice cream flavor she could come up with was vanilla, but feels it's too obvious. As this happens, Cheesecake tries to get Strawberry's attention, but she remains oblivious to Blueberry's current state. Blueberry manages to utter out the word "vanilla", but Strawberry points out that vanilla is the flavor she didn't want, and asks Blueberry if she's okay. She gets closer to Blueberry, finally noticing her friend has been frozen, and that not only is she frozen, she's got brain freeze. She then asks Cheesecake why she didn't tell her about this.
Cutaway: Cheesecake looks at the screen, disgruntled.
Cutaway: Strawberry talks about how creative Blueberry is when it comes to thinking up new flavors no other berry would think of, but she can't do it with brain freeze. Strawberry decides she has to unfreeze Blueberry so she can get back to brainstorming brilliant ice cream ideas for Strawberry, hastily correcting it to "herself" (referring to Blueberry).
A montage of Strawberry and Cheesecake's attempts to unfreeze Blueberry occurs. They first try a hairdryer, but it malfunctions until Strawberry points it at herself in confusion, with the air going full blast and leaving her hair frazzled. They wrap Blueberry up with a blanket, and she ends up falling over, still not moving. They try another hairdryer, but it ends up being too powerful and blasts Cheesecake away, leaving her head fur a poofy mess. They drag Blueberry over to a sunbed, but then notice it's occupied by Custard, who won't budge, so the two have to drag Blueberry back. Finally, they decide to use multiple hairdryers (specifically five) simultaneously, plugging all into a single socket and blasting them at full power. This ends up short-circuiting the socket, causing causing a power outage at the Berryworks, Big Apple City, and somehow the entire world.
It cuts to nighttime, Strawberry and Cheesecake sit next to a campfire with Blueberry. Strawberry says this might be their last chance to thaw out Blueberry. She then pulls out a bag of marshmallows, noting that they can at least snack while they wait. Cheesecake agrees, grabbing a piece of cheese and roasting it on the campfire. Strawberry notes that the combo is very odd, but Blueberry would probably enjoy it if she wasn't frozen. As Strawberry continues to ramble, Blueberry smells the combo, which Cheesecake notices. She tries to get Strawberry's attention, who continues to ramble on obliviously. Cheesecake gets fed up and tosses the flags she was waving to Strawberry at her, which finally makes her notice Blueberry. Strawberry realizes it's not about warming up her body, it's about warming up her creativity with something weird and wacky. She grabs the cheese and marshmallow sticks and says it should do the trick. She then asks Cheesecake why she didn't think of this, which Cheesecake responds to with a grunt of irritation.
Strawberry holds up a cheese-covered marshmallow to Blueberry's nose, finally snapping her out of her frozen state. Blueberry tosses off her blanket and declares she's finally come up with a new flavor of marshmallows, cheese, and smoke, declaring it to be the perfect mix of sweet and savory. Blueberry decides to call the new flavor "Camembert Campfire Crunch" and runs off, presumably to her cart. Strawberry celebrates that she now has an ice cream flavor for her butter cake, while Cheesecake, completely done with the situation, grabs two marshmallows and hops away. Strawberry decides to try out the marshmallow and cheese combo, only for her to quickly spit it out in disgust.
Cutaway: Strawberry says she decided to just go with vanilla on vanilla after all.

- When the episode first premiered, it was called "Blueberry is Frozen". Later releases of the episode use the official title, "Blueberry Brain Freeze".
- This is first episode focusing around Blueberry, but she doesn't actually play an active role. Instead, the episode is about Strawberry attempting to thaw Blueberry from her brain freeze.
- This is also the first episode in the series that a pet who isn't Custard has the most prominence, as Cheesecake is one of the major characters in the episode, while Custard only has a minor appearance.
- Cheesecake is the first pet to do the cutaway segment where she talks to the viewer, though because she can’t speak she just looks at the camera disgruntled. She is also the second non-main character to receive a cutaway after Aunt Praline.
- This episode features the first cutaway segment with Blueberry, making her the last member of the core cast to do so, and the sixth non-Strawberry character to receive a cutaway segment after Lemon Meringue, Aunt Praline, Orange Blossom, Lime Chiffon, and Cheesecake.
- Blueberry's cutaway background is light blue with a blueberry pattern.
- Blueberry's "friendship" with The Universe is somewhat established in this episode, as she says that The Universe guides her to inspiration for new flavors.
