Big Apple City is a recurring location seen in the Strawberry Shortcake franchise, where Strawberry will usually travel to so she can accomplish her baking dreams.
General Information[]
1980s[]
Strawberry Shortcake travels here for the Big Bake-off. Her journey gets rocky thanks to the Peculiar Purple Pieman's machinations, but she manages to overcome what the Pieman does to her both en-route to and during the Big Bake-off.
Berry Bitty Adventures[]
It first appears in the 2016 IDW Comics series, where it once again serves as the location for a bake-off between Strawberry Shortcake and the Peculiar Purple Pieman in Issue #2.
Berry in the Big City[]
Big Apple City serves as the main setting for the series, rather than being a one-off location. Strawberry moved to Big Apple City from her hometown of Berryville to follow in the footsteps of her idols, Kiki Keylime, Purple Pieman, and Crabapple Jam, and make it big in the world of baking.
Big Apple City started off as an ordinary apple orchard. J. Quincy Cupcake and his wife, Henrietta Cupcake, decided to start their cupcake business there, building a cupcake factory that became a massive success. The orchard expanded into a small town known as Apple Grove, and over the years became the metropolis known as Big Apple City. According to Blueberry Muffin, the seeds for the apple orchard were originally planted by magical Berry Guardians, though it's unknown if this is actually true.
J. Quincy's cupcake factory is now a popular tourist destination known as The Berryworks, a hangout spot filled with restaurants, shops, a VIP greenhouse, and a food truck lot where the Berry Besties sell their products.

Description[]
1980s[]
The city has many buildings that look like apples or stacks of apples. Some of the buildings go up very high, while some appear to be only two or three stories high.
Known Locations[]
- Hotel: Strawberry Shortcake made a reservation at this hotel so she could get to a baking contest, but The Peculiar Purple Pieman, posing as the man at the front desk, told her she had no reservation, resulting in Strawberry wandering away, crying over how she had been gaslit.
- Sentimental Park: After being told she had no reservation, Strawberry came upon this place. This is where she met Orange Blossom and the two became friends, even singing a duet together.
- Spinach Village: This is where Orange Blossom, Lemon Meringue, and T.N. Honey lived before moving to Strawberryland. Strawberry met Lemon, T.N. Honey, and Apricot during her stay here.
- Little Theater Off Times Pear: This is where the Big Bake-Off was filmed, and The Purple Pieman attempted to stop Strawberry from winning by messing with all her ingredients (Strawberries replaced by bubblegum, flour replaced by plaster, etc.). Strawberry's newfound friends, however, made a quick trip to the grocery store to get her new ingredients so she could win.
Berry Bitty Adventures[]
Big Apple City has a much more "realistic" appearance, with regular-looking buildings, and bearing much more resemblance to a real-life city.
Known Locations[]
- Airport: Strawberry Shortcake and Orange Blossom were picked up at the airport by Apple Dumplin'. Orange's luggage ended up in Apple Oaks, and later Spinach Village, much to her ire.
- Statue of Liberty: As part of Strawberry, Orange, and Apple's sightseeing tour, they sailed past the Statue of Liberty on a boat. It's unknown what the in-universe name is.
- The Wiltmore Hotel: The hotel the girls were sent to after their original hotel cancelled their reservation. It was run-down and creepy.
- Cake Fuji: A building next to the Wiltmore. It's purpose is known.
- Peach Pitt Station: A subway station in Big Apple City's subway system.
- Orchard Street: A location in Big Apple City, briefly mentioned to have a traffic jam.
- Times Pear Studios: The studio where the filming for Big Apple Rail Days takes place.
Berry in the Big City[]
Big Apple City, while largely appearing like a normal city, also has many eccentric looking buildings in the shape of food and fruit. A prominent building in the city has a large apple structure on the top of its spire, presumably the equivalent to One Times Square.
Known Locations[]
- Bus Station: The bus station at Big Apple City, where buses drop off and pick up passengers. Strawberry Shortcake met up with her Aunt Praline there.
- Aunt Praline's Apartment: Aunt Praline's home, Strawberry lives with her during her stay in Big Apple City. It is located at the top floor of the building.
- Orange Blossom's Apartment: Orange Blossom's home where she lives with her parents and older sister. It has only been seen in Orange's Slumber Party.
- Blueberry Muffin's Apartment: Blueberry Muffin's home where she lives with her mother and younger brother. It has only been seen in The Battle of Blueberry's Slumber Party.
- Lime Chiffon's House: Lime Chiffon's home where she lives with her dads. It has been seen in Berry Bounty Bust and Night of the Sweet Tooth Fairy.
- Lemon Meringue's House: Lemon Meringue's home where she lives with her dad. It's basement has only been seen in Slumber Party at Lemon's, while the rest of the house remains unseen.
- The Berryworks: A popular tourist destination in Big Apple City, it is considered the best place for bakers to start their career. It started off as an ordinary cupcake factory run by J. Quincy Cupcake, the founder of Big Apple City, before being converted into a food truck lot in the modern day. It also contains shops, restaurants, a park-like highline, and a VIP greenhouse. Underneath the complex are storage facilities from the early days of the factory. Hidden behind a painting of J. Quincy and his wife, Henrietta Cupcake, is J. Quincy's former office, which has since been converted into a clubhouse hangout for the Berryworks employees. Bread Pudding's office is located somewhere in the left side of the Berryworks.
- Purple Pieshops: A chain of restaurants that sell The Peculiar Purple Pieman's famous baked goods, located everywhere in Big Apple City. The pies are established to be frozen, mass-produced, and not even taste that good, and are likely only popular due to Pieman's fame. A Purple Pieshop used to be located in the Berryworks, but was decommissioned after the Pieman was exposed as a corrupt man. It is unknown if the rest of the Pieshops are still open following his fall from grace.
- Purple Pieman's Factory: The Peculiar Purple Pieman's former base of operations, it is where his frozen pies are manufactured.
- Cumin-Thyme Museum of Modern Art: A famous art museum in Big Apple City.
- Bite of the City Studio: The studio where Bite of the City is partially filmed. It contains a blue backdrop featuring the show's logo, and also a more talk show-like setup to interview guests.
- The Funnelcake System: The main source of quick transportation in Big Apple City, a sprawling underground subway system. It is known for being immensely confusing to navigate for those unfamiliar with the city, with the map bearing resemblance to a bunch of squiggly lines surrounding a pile of whipped cream and a cherry on top. Strawberry Shortcake mistook the subway's map for spaghetti in Meet Huckleberry Pie.
- Bloomingberries: A department store in the city, full of fashionable clothes. Strawberry Shortcake and Lime Chiffon go here for some outfits when the former plans on going to Gascone in Be Your Berry Best.
- Golden Delicious Park: A huge park in Big Apple City.
- Times Pear: A major intersection in Big Apple City. It is where the Gumball Drop happens during New Years.
- Fruitleg Alley: A shady underground market located in an alleyway. The sellers are known for being deceitful and will swindle you any chance they get. The operation is run by Caramel Tartufo, the crumbfather of Fruitleg Alley. His daughter, Caramela Éclair, serves as one of the enforcers. While considered an untrustworthy location, it is often used to find hard-to-get ingredients and out-of-season fruit. Its name comes from "bootleg," a verb which means "to make, transport, and/or sell an illegal version or copy of a copyrighted product."
- Upper Crust Social Club/Big Apple City Swimming Pool: A pool located at the roof of the Upper Crust Social Club. It is the only pool in Big Apple City and was exclusive only to Upper Crust members. After the Berry Besties intervened, it has since been converted into a public pool available to everyberry.
- Poachella Stage: The stage where the annual music event Poachella occurs. Headlining the show every year was Sherry Bobbleberry and the Berry Fairies (later the Cherry Jam Band after their rebranding). An audition is held every year to find an opening act for the Berry Fairies.
- Mrs. Crumbcake's House: Mrs. Crumbcake's home, where she lives with her granddaughter, Honeydew Sorbet.
- Marketplace: An area filled with stands that sell fruit and cooking supplies.
- Lean Green Community Garden: A garden run by Granola Crunch. Initially Granola was the only gardener, as she was afraid other berries would mess up the place, and it appeared fairly run down. Thanks to Strawberry and the Berry Besties' assistance, it has since become a thriving community garden.
- Starfruit Express: A popular rollerskating rink in Big Apple City. It has a pizza stand run by Spicy Crust.
- Sparkberry Factory: A factory where sparkberries, the main source of power in Big Apple City, are produced. It had its grand opening in Berry In The Big City, but has never been seen onscreen.
- City Hall: The administrative building for Big Apple City's local government. Mayor Molasses runs the town from this location, assisted by his chief of staff Aunt Praline. It has never been seen onscreen.
- Guava Spava
- Grocery Store
- Macintosh Library
- Sweetie Pie Preschool
