Berry Bounty Bolt is the 14th episode in airing order of the second season of Berry In The Big City. It premiered on November 19, 2022.
Summary[]
It’s that time of year again – this time Orange Blossom and her family are sharing their Berry Bounty Bolt tradition with their friends and family.
Plot[]
The Berry Besties and their families have gathered near a starting line. Orange Blossom leads her family through their warm-up exercise, switching between push-ups, sit-ups, and a handstand.
Cutaway: Orange Blossom announces that it's the Berry Bounty Banquet, and she thought that this year her friends could take part in one of her family traditions: running the Berry Bounty Bolt. Orange smirks, and corrects it to her family winning the Berry Bounty Bolt. Orange Crisp, Cherry Blossom, and Cherry Crisp appear next to her, and Orange Crisp intensely declares that they're number one.
Cutaway: Strawberry Shortcake remarks that Orange Blossom's family is a little competitive, but she is sure that the competition will be friendly, only to be interrupted by Orange Blossom asking who's ready to come in second place. Strawberry, surprised and slightly intimidated, whispers that she hopes the competition is friendly.
Strawberry Shortcake and Aunt Praline yawn and stretch, visibly drowsy. Praline asks for a good reason why they should be up this early and Strawberry Shortcake suggests winning and proving they are the Berry Bounty Bestest. The two snap awake, getting into a crouched starting position, and Praline agrees that it is a great reason.
Lime Chiffon and Dr. Lime Pops walk past them, reading a history book together. Lime Pops points out to his daughter that many cultures run barefoot to increase tread time. Fluffy Chiffon is aghast, since he got the family matching limited edition Rick Ovens running shoes, and shows them how fabulous the shoes are. Lime Chiffon declines and decides to go with Pops, choosing being "fast" over "fabulous". A berry in a wheelchair rolls past Lime's family and passes by Blueberry Muffin meditating with her mother, Everything Muffin, transitioning the focus to them. Everything Muffin tells her daughter to breathe in success and out the doubt. Everything Bagel suddenly snatches Blueberry's meditation pillow out from under her. Everything Muffin yells in frustration at her kids fighting again, as Blueberry chases Bagel. She grabs her pillow and tries to yank it back, shouting at him, but Bagel mockingly repeats her shouting. The two end up ripping the pillow in half, causing both to tumble backwards. Everything Bagel rolls past Lemon Meringue tinkering with her high-tech running shoes. Lemon Drop asks his daughter how are her "Runaway Booties". Lemon scoffs in frustration and corrects him on the name, "Runway 3000s". She then looks over to him and is shocked, as he's wearing a turkey costume. She asks him what he's doing, and he tells her that he's just getting into the spirit as he begins stretching. Lemon Meringue curls into a ball in embarrassment.
Orange Blossom pops up to ask if everyberry is ready, and explains the route the Berry Bounty Bolt will take: Through Golden Delicious Park, down Fifth (presumably Avenue) to Times Pear, over the hurdles set up near Bloomingberries, and finally, across the finish line at the Berryworks. She tells the Berry Besties' families that every member has to cross the finish line to win first place. Strawberry Shortcake adds "may the best berry win", but is met with no answer. Orange tells Strawberry that they know who the best berries are (pointing to herself), but suggests "may the second-best berries come in right behind [her family]" and goes for a high five. Strawberry doesn't go for it, so Orange takes her hand and does the high-five anyway.
The families (plus some unimportant background extras) gather at the starting line, as the referee stands in front. Orange's family gets into a crouching start, Strawberry and Praline get into a sprinting start, Blueberry and Bagel get into a slap fight, Lemon gets embarrassed by Drop wearing the turkey costume, and Lime's family gets ready (while Fluffy continues to be enamored by his shoes). The referee blows his whistle and waves his flag, and the racers all rush past him, accidentally trampling him in the process. He weakly whistles and waves his flag again.
Fluffy Chiffon gets a head start against his husband and daughter, quipping that he's fast and fabulous, to their unamusement. As the families reach Times Pear, Everything Bagel notices he and Blueberry are currently being focused on by the cameras, and begins another slap-fight, enraging Blueberry enough that she loudly yells for him to quit it. She then realizes she's on camera and freezes in place, giving off a mortified laugh. At the Bloomingberries hurdles, Orange's family and Strawberry effortlessly jump over the obstacles. Lemon Meringue gets an idea and uses her Runway 3000s to jump-boost over all the hurdles. Her dad trips over the first one and accidentally knocks over the other hurdles as he continues tumbling. Lime Chiffon and Lime Pops follow, Chiffon telling her dad that running barefoot was a good idea. The two then run across the road, and their feet are scorched on the hot pavement. Fluffy Chiffon runs back to his family, smugly reiterating that wearing shoes was the better option. He then accidentally steps on some gum in slow motion, screaming in horror and disgust. He cradles his shoes in his arms, crying over "his baby". Pops puts his hand on his husband's shoulder, while Lime Chiffon, annoyed at him focusing more on the shoes than her, points out that she's standing right near him.
Blueberry Muffin's family runs past the Limes, as Bagel and Blueberry continue shoving each other and end up getting caught in a dust cloud of fighting. Strawberry Shortcake catches up to Orange Blossom, who confidently tells her she isn't winning. Aunt Praline suddenly zooms past Orange's family, to her surprise, and Strawberry quips that being competitive runs in her family as she runs past them too. Strawberry then pops back to ask if she got the joke, prompting Orange to run faster, catching up to Strawberry. As the two begin nearing the finish line, they're suddenly knocked over by Blueberry and Bagel's fighting dustcloud, followed by Everything Muffin chasing after her kids. Blueberry Muffin's family ends up crossing the finish line first, as the referee declares them the winners. Blueberry and Bagel are shocked that they won and hug, before immediately realizing what they're doing and and stop hugging, reacting with disgust.
Orange Blossom and her family are shocked that they lost, and Strawberry tries to offer condolences... until Orange Blossom yells that the race was awesome, and Orange Crisp notes that they haven't had competition like that in years, complimenting the Berry Besties' families for making them step up their game. Orange exclaims that she can't wait until next year, and Strawberry admits that all the friendly competition has made her hungry. Strawberry declares to bring on the Berry Bounty Banquet, and is met with silence from everyberry again. Orange Blossom points out that it's only 7:00 am, to Strawberry's disappointment. She then comes up with the idea for a Berry Bounty Breakfast, suggesting that instead. The Berry Besties and their families all laugh together and begin walking away, until they're instantly hit with aching from having run across the entire city. The episode ends with everyberry slowly shuffling away and complaining about their aches, while Fluffy continues crying over his ruined shoes.

Trivia[]
- This is the third Berry Bounty Banquet episode after Berry Bounty Banquet Part One & Part Two, and the first to not be a two-parter.
- This episode marks Dr. Lime Pops' first speaking role; in his debut appearance, Lime Pops did not speak properly, but he did chuckle a bit.
- Bread Pudding and Figgy Pudding, Caramela Éclair and Caramel Tartufo, and Sour Grapes and The Peculiar Purple Pieman are the only families who did not participate in the race.
- This episode is the first time a physically disabled character appears in the franchise, as one of the participants in the race is a wheelchair user. He appears to be watermelon themed.
Continuity[]
- Blueberry Muffin and Everything Bagel's mutually antagonistic relationship is once again shown, having first occurred all the way back in Berry Bounty Banquet. Coincidentally, both episodes take place on the same holiday.
References[]
- The Berry Bounty Bolt is based on the Turkey Trot race, an American Thanksgiving event where participants run a 5K footrace. The first Turkey Trot took place in Buffalo, New York in 1896, and is the oldest known footrace in North America.
- Lemon Tort wearing a turkey costume is likewise a nod to the race, as many participants do wear turkey costumes to the event.
- Fluffy Chiffon's Rick Ovens running shoes are named after Rick Owens, an American fashion designer.
- When Aunt Praline runs past Orange Blossom's family, she shouts "On your left!". It might be a reference to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which featured a scene of Steve Rogers jogging with Sam Wilson, the former continuously outrunning the latter while shouting the phrase. However, in real life it is a common phrase used by runners to signal when they are about to pass another runner, so it could just be an example of that.
- When she and Strawberry are racing to cross the finish line, Orange Blossom appears to be “Naruto-running”.
Errors[]
- As the families pass through Times Pear, Lime Chiffon and Dr. Lime Pops can be seen running barefooted on a road without showing any pain, despite a later scene occurring where their feet are burnt on the hot pavement. Although given how quickly that scene passes, and since they were in the distance, it was likely just not deemed a priority by the animators.
- On the Netflix version:
- The subtitles incorrectly address Lemon Drop as "Lime's dad" in his first line.
- When Blueberry Muffin yells at Everything Bagel in Times Pear, her yelling "Quit it!" is transcribed as "Stop!"
