Be Your Berry Best is the 20th episode of the first season of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry In The Big City. It premieres on January 15th, 2022.
Summary[]
Aunt Praline is taking Strawberry Shortcake to the fanciest restaurant in the city and Lime takes her dress shopping for the occasion.
Plot[]
Strawberry Shortcake is on a video call with Aunt Praline, as she finishes up a batch of jelly donuts. Aunt Praline tells her that she has a few more things to do today (three emails, two meetings, and one yoga class) before she's ready to go. Strawberry tells her that once she finishes making the jelly-filled donuts, she'll meet her at Garscone. Lime Chiffon, who had been walking by the truck in the background, overhears the last part and quickly rushes over to Strawberry, asks her if she's really going there, which Strawberry confirms, as her aunt is taking her there for a girl's night. Lime excitedly tells Strawberry that Garscone is the hottest restaurant in Big Apple City, complimenting the food with a chef's kiss. Lime asks Strawberry what she'll wear to the restaurant, and Strawberry replies that she'll be wearing her usual outfit, which is covered in jelly stains. Lime tells Strawberry to close her truck, as she's taking Strawberry shopping, and the two girls leave. Lime immediately rushes back in to grab the jelly donuts, accidentally dropping one on Custard.
Cutaway: Strawberry Shortcake says she's not fancy, and doesn't think she needs to get dressed up just for dinner with her aunt,
Cutaway: Lime Chiffon says that Strawberry needs to dress fancy for dinner with her aunt, since Garscone is a fancy place.
At the Bloomingberries department store, Lime explains to Strawberry that it's the best place to find the perfect outfit for tonight. Strawberry expresses uncertainty about this, thinking all of this is too fancy for her. She then notices Lime's enormous grin, and asks why she's looking at her like that. The saleswomen around them then start singing the intro to "Be Your Berry Best", as Lime Chiffon encourages Strawberry to try on the outfits so she can be ready for Garscone, singing about how she's free to dress however fancy and bright she wants. A montage of Strawberry trying out different outfits occurs, growing more and more discouraged and hesitant as the saleswomen and Lime dance around her and give her more outfits.
The songs ends as the outfit chosen for Strawberry is revealed. Lime asks Strawberry how she likes the outfit picked for her. Strawberry hesitantly comments that the outfit may be perfect for Garscone, but it's not perfect for herself. Strawberry takes off her hat and sets it aside, deciding that she doesn't want to go there anymore, and she'll just tell Aunt Praline she's taking a rain check so they can reschedule for another night, trudging off with her head down.
Cutaway: Lime sheepishly admits that when it comes to fashion, she can get a teensy-bit carried away.
Lime stares at the hat in disappointment, as she takes a bite out of one of the jelly donuts from earlier. Lime is then struck with a realization, and hurries back to Strawberry before she leaves. She tells Strawberry that noberry cares about what's outside of the donut, but rather the inside. She then compares it to dressing up, saying how it can be fun, but no matter what Strawberry wears, she'll be a huge hit as long as the outfit is true to herself. The two go back to trying outfits on at a much slower pace, as one last verse of "Be Your Berry Best" plays, this time saying Strawberry should take her time and to choose an outfit she's comfortable with. The song ends for real with Strawberry and Lime leaving Bloomingberries, having chosen out an outfit that Strawberry likes.
At Garscone, Aunt Praline compliments Strawberry's outfit, saying she looks fabulous. Strawberry says that it's all thanks to her "fashion guru" friend, Lime Chiffon, who is wearing the "fancy" outfit Strawberry had from earlier. Praline also compliments Lime, telling her she looks very "fashion forward", to which Lime says that she always tries to look her very best. Strawberry and Lime laugh together as the episode ends.

Trivia[]
- Two locations in Big Apple City are shown off in this episode, the Bloomingberries department store, and Garscone.
- Both were shown in the Berryworks Commercial short prior to this episode, however Garscone wasn't referred to by name, and the interior was implied to be part of the Berryworks by the narrator.
- Garscone is a pun on "garçon", which means "male waiter" in French, and "scone", which is a type of British pastry.
- We learned that Lime likes fashion in this episode, which will go on to become one of her more prominent character traits alongside her love of books.

- Unknown outfit consisting of a beret, sunglasses with a pointed edge, a very baggy t-shirt, and pointy boots with heel spurs.

- Strawberry's chosen dinner outfit consisting of a simple pink shirt, long dark red skirt, short pink socks, green slippers with a flower decoration, and a small necklace and earrings, with Strawberry's hair in a ponytail.
- Individual Clothes:
- According to Ana Sani, Margarita Valderrama was involved with the song "Be Your Berry Best", which Margarita also seemingly confirmed.[1]
- It's unlikely that Margarita did the singing for Lime, as Cassandra Consiglio is still credited as being a voice actor for Lime Chiffon in the episode credits, and it's also unlikely that they would substitute the main voice actor rather than the singing double for a major part in the song when that has not occurred before or since for the series. While Berry Merry Melody did have Tabitha St. Germain sing a line as Raspberry Tart, Shannon Chan-Kent appeared to have not yet been casted as her singing double at the time.
- If one listens closely, the Salesberry backup singers do sound like Margarita Valderrama, so it is likely she provided the vocals for them.
Continuity[]
- Some of the outfits Strawberry wears are from previous episodes, such as Strawberry's pajamas, Sour Grapes' winter beret, Raspberry Tart and Strawberry's winter outfits, and parts of Strawberry's scarecrow outfit from Fright Fall.
References to Past Series[]
- One of the outfits that Strawberry wears is the outfit of the original 1980s Strawberry Shortcake.
References[]
- The Bloomingberries department store is named after Bloomingdale's, a real-life department store.
