Plot[]
Part 1[]
The episode begins with Aunt Praline walking into her living room looking through her phone, when she's nearly hit by a flying cake. Aunt Praline gets up and sees her kitchen covered in cakes, with Strawberry Shortcake hastily baking another one. Aunt Praline says she has questions, and Strawberry tells her there's no time to answer since she's too busy.
Cutaway: Strawberry explains that her favorite show ever, "Bite of the City", is shooting their next episode at the Berryworks and auditions are being held today. She's excited, and nervous, and frEAKING OUT.
Aunt Praline asks her niece which cake she's entering for the audition, but Strawberry tells her aunt that none of those cakes are good enough. She tells Praline that she's baked for Kiki KeyLime before, so her dish has to be amazing, and something Kiki won't forget. The oven dings, and Strawberry pulls out a freshly-baked cake. She closely inspects it, even holding a ruler along the top. Strawberry, frustrated, calls it garbage and dumps it out of the cake tin into the trash bin (which is also overflowing with cake). She walks off to start over. Aunt Praline walks up to the trash bin and sniffs it.
Cutaway: Aunt says that her garbage smells delicious.
At the Berryworks, Kiki Keylime walks up to the audition table and waves at the auditioners. A long line of hopeful bakers stretches across the Berryworks, with Strawberry's Berry Besties at the end of the line. Orange Blossom, checking her phone, tells her friends that Strawberry is rebaking her cake. Lemon Meringue points out she's rebaked the cake a lot, and Blueberry Muffin says that Strawberry should probably hurry up. Lime Chiffon, distressed, confirms this, since auditions are starting.
Back at Praline's apartment, Strawberry Shortcake prepares to bake her perfect dessert. A montage occurs, showing Strawberry baking while Kiki KeyLime tries out the auditioners' entries, such as a nutty chocolate cake from Mrs. Crumbcake and swan-shaped pastries from Strawberry's lookalike. While Strawberry is closely inspecting some strawberries, Kiki KeyLime disqualifies Sour Grapes' submission for just being a frozen pie from the Purple Pieshop, telling her that she's supposed to actually bake. Huckleberry Pie begins his audition, saying that he wants to become Big Apple City's next singing superstar as he prepares to play his guitar, but Kiki stops him and kindly informs Huck that he's got the wrong show.
Kiki KeyLime is impressed by Raspberry Tart's submission and baking talent, recognizing her parents are the world-famous bakers Raspberry Ambrosia and Mulberry Tart. Up on the skyline above the audition table, the Berry besties watch the auditions, while Orange calls Strawberry and asks where she is. Strawberry replies that she's finally done and on her way. Strawberry admires her perfect dessert, a triple-layered strawberry cake, and leans on the counter. Unfortunately, her elbow happened to lean against the Lucky Spoon, which was right under the cake. The spoon tips upward from Strawberry leaning on it, and it knocks over the cake. The cake splatters on the floor, Strawberry reacting in distress as she collapses on the floor.
Aunt Praline comes by and checks on Strawberry, who worries about not being picked for "Bite of the City". Aunt Praline tells Strawberry that she just wouldn't be picked, and while being on the show would be the icing on her Big Apple City adventure, it isn't the cake. The cake is her Berry Besties, running her own food truck, and getting to live with Aunt Praline, which she says is the best part. Strawberry and Praline hug, but Strawberry is still worried, wondering if she turns out to not be the baker she thinks she is. Praline simply tells her that she won't know unless she tries, and she'd say that Strawberry is already pretty flan-tastic. Strawberry, newly motivated, decides that she is flan-tastic, and calls Orange Blossom. She tells her friend that she'll be at the Berryworks soon, she just needs the Berry Besties to stall Kiki KeyLime for a little longer, which they agree to.
Another montage of Strawberry Shortcake baking occurs, this time with scenes of the Berry Besties distracting Kiki interspersed. Orange Blossom recaps a Tangerine Smash story, but Kiki tells her that unless her next word is "bake", then they're done here. Blueberry Muffin just sits in front of Kiki, who asks if she brought a dessert, but Blueberry tells her that this delicious exchange of energy is enough for her, Lime Chiffon holds up a plate of rocks, Kiki confusedly asks if this is supposed to be rock candy, and Lime tells her it's just rocks, Strawberry finally finished baking her dessert and rushes out of her apartment, as she begins sprinting to the Berryworks with her dessert. Kiki KeyLime, holding a metal "pie" that Lemon Meringue made, asks if she's should even try eating it. Lemon tells her that she wouldn't. Strawberry rushes past some of the auditioners, nearly knocking them over as she runs into the Berryworks. Kiki KeyLime begins to tell her crew that they're done here, fed up with her time being wasted by the Berry Besties, when Strawberry finally gets to Kiki. Kiki, relieved that an actual baker arrived, asks Strawberry where she's been. Strawberry confesses that she was panicking, and she was so worried about not being good enough that she almost didn't try, but then she realized that if she didn't try, she couldn't give Kiki KeyLime some key lime brookie-cake truffles. Kiki KeyLime picks one and takes a bite out of it.
Cutaway: Strawberry says Aunt Praline was right that her life is already pretty flan-tastic, but that if she doesn't get on the show, it's okay, Strawberry then adds that she still really wants to be on the show.
A crowd has formed at the Berryworks, eagerly awaiting the results. Kiki KeyLime announces to everyberry that choosing the next contestants was a tough decision, but there were two bakers that were really impressive, and will face off against each other in tomorrow's bake-off. Kiki announces the bakers she's chosen: Raspberry Tart and Strawberry Shortcake, as their friends cheer them on. Strawberry and Raspberry are excited that they've been picked, saying such in unison. The two rivals then turn to face each other, prepared to finally show who's the better baker once and for all...
Part 2[]
The episode begins with the intro for "Bite of the City". The screen cuts to show Kiki KeyLime hosting the episode live at the Berryworks, where two of the city's brightest bakers will compete to prove which one deserves to rise to the top. The crowd begins cheering. Kiki KeyLime introduces a visibly confident Raspberry Tart, and Bread Pudding and Sour Grapes enthusiastically cheer her on (or as enthusiastic as Sour can get). Kiki then introduces a visibly nervous Strawberry Shortcake, and her Berry Besties and Aunt Praline cheer her on as well.
She announces that since they're filming live at the Berryworks, otherwise known as "The sweetest place in the city", their challenge will be to create an edible replica of the Berryworks itself. She tells the two bakers that it all comes down to this moment, and starts the competition. The two bakers race to their trucks onstage as the crowd cheers them on.
The song Be the Best begins, a song about Strawberry and Raspberry wanting to be the best at baking, as the two bake their Berryworks replica. Strawberry sings about how she's waited for this chance to shine and show what she can do, even with the mounting pressure. Raspberry shows off, effortlessly kicking up a bowl into her hands to pour a cup of milk into it, which Strawberry is unamused by. Raspberry sings about how she has to win so she can make her dreams come true, as the pressure continues building. At the second chorus, Strawberry and Raspberry stare down one another before racing to their ovens, Strawberry accidentally burning her pastries while Raspberry underbakes hers. When Strawberry brings her pastries to her table, she accidentally knocks over a glass of chocolate, but doesn't notice. As the two bakers begin building their replica, they sing about the pressure against them, how they have so much to prove and can't show fear now, and how they thought their dreams of being the best would've been more fun. The final chorus begins, as they continue building their replica, with Kiki KeyLime looking closely at each one.
As the song ends, Strawberry finally notices her chocolate spillage, and rushes to clean it, but ends up slipping on the puddle and falls right onto Raspberry Tart's Berryworks replica, accidentally destroying it. Everyberry is shocked, Strawberry backs away, apologizing to Raspberry. Raspberry snaps, and grabs a chunk of her ruined replica and tosses it right at Strawberry, hitting her right in the face, much to the crowd's further shock. Strawberry grabs a chunk of her replica and tosses it at Raspberry, who then proceeds to do the same to Strawberry. The crowd stares on in stunned silence, enough that one can literally hear a pin drop (no, seriously, listen closely).
But then...the two girls begin laughing, and continue playfully tossing pastries at one another. The crowd is still stunned, as some begin filming on their own phones. Across Big Apple City, residents from all over watch the episodes on their phones and the various digital billboards, while Custard facepalms as she watches on the TV at home. Kiki KeyLime announces to the audience that they'll be right back after a quick break to... clean up.
Cutaway: Strawberry, slightly embarrassed, says neither of them won, but she's not bothered. She realizes she doesn't need to be the best, she bakes because she loves baking
In the aftermath, Strawberry and Raspberry laugh together as they sit on the stage. Their friends all rush up to them, and Orange Blossom questions why they started a food fight. Strawberry tells everyberry that she and Raspberry realized something: They both love baking, and they're both really good at it. Raspberry adds that they realized how silly it was to be mean to someberry they have so much in common with. Lemon Meringue asks if all of them are friends now, and Bread Pudding tells them that after embarrassing themselves on television, they're going to need good friends. When everyberry begins staring at him, he adds that of course they'll all have Raspberry and Strawberry's backs. However, Lime Chiffon checks her phone, and tells the two that the episode has gone viral, and everyberry loves it. Strawberry and Raspberry smile at each other, finally, truly, friends.
Meanwhile, at the Purple Pieshop factory, as thunder and lightning crackle overhead, a man in the shadows watches the episode on his television. He declares that he's found some brand new competition... to squash, as he crushes a strawberry cupcake in his hand. The man begins laughing maniacally as the lightning illuminates the shadows, revealing The Peculiar Purple Pieman.

Trivia[]
- Raspberry's parents are mentioned for the first time, and are revealed to be world famous bakers, explaining their frequent absence from Raspberry's life.
- Both Raspberry and Strawberry finally befriend each other along with Sour and Bread becoming part of the Berry Besties.
- "Bite of the City" is evidently popular enough in Big Apple City that new episodes air live on the digital screens and billboards of Times Pear.
Continuity[]
- This two-parter serves as the culmination of Strawberry Shortcake and Raspberry Tart's rivalry, with both finally ending their animosity and befriending each other over their shared talents and interests.
- Raspberry and Strawberry are further contrasted with each other in Part 2.
- When Kiki KeyLime introduces them, Raspberry is confident, while Strawberry is nervous.
- When building their replica, Raspberry's is more exact and detailed, while Strawberry's is more stylized and features miniature chocolate statues of her friends.
- Raspberry and Strawberry are further contrasted with each other in Part 2.
- The newest episode of "Bite of the City" is being filmed at the Berryworks, after Kiki KeyLime suggested it in "Lucky Berry".
References to Past Series[]
- The two-parter is centered around Strawberry being in a baking competition against a rival baker in Big Apple City. This is a recurring plot in the franchise, occuring in the original 1980s television specials (Strawberry Shortcake in Big Apple City) and the 2016 Berry Bitty Adventures IDW comics (Issue #2), however in this case, the baker Strawberry is facing off against is Raspberry Tart rather than the Peculiar Purple Pieman.
- Sour Grapes submitting a pie from the Purple Pieshop as her audition entry is a reference to how prior incarnations of her were associated with the Pieman. Given the events of Season 2, this was likely also foreshadowing.
- The Peculiar Purple Pieman watching the bake-off from his factory headquarters and deciding to crush Strawberry as competition harkens back to his first appearance in the franchise, where he was also watching Strawberry from his lair and decided to antagonize her.
Errors[]
- Before putting her muffins in the oven, Strawberry's measuring cup is empty and was only used for measuring flour at the beginning. It reappears on her desk in a different position with chocolate syrup after she finished baking.
- When Raspberry puts her trays into the oven no rectangle cookie cutter lines can be seen. But when the dough starts rising it can be seen again.
- Margarita Valderrama is uncredited in Part 2 despite Lime Chiffon having speaking lines.
