All About Lemon is the 11th episode of Season 2 of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City. It premiered on August 27th, 2022.

Summary

The top technology website wants to interview Lemon Meringue about her latest inventions! Now if only Lemon’s shyness would let her get a word out.

Plot

Lemon Meringue checks her phone as she rolls out from under her cart, first wowed, then distressed, as she continues cycling through her emotions. Strawberry Shortcake walks up to her to ask for an ingredient, but then notices Lemon's strange behavior. She takes Lemon's phone to see what's causing her friend to act this way, and sees that Fusionberry wants to interview Lemon about her inventions, amazed at the news. Strawberry then asks what Fusionberry is, and Lemon explains that it is a popular technology and innovation website that every tech-head in the city reads. Lemon rolls back under her cart, and Strawberry doesn't understand why it makes her nervous. Lemon tells Strawberry that they want her to talk about one of her inventions, and Strawberry points out that Lemon loves talking about how everything should bigger, stronger, more powerful, as she strikes poses to emphasize. Lemon then points out to Strawberry that she loves talking about her inventions to her friends, not some science stranger. Strawberry then greets a passing customer, which gives Lemon the idea for Strawberry to do the interview instead. Strawberry points out that she doesn't know anything about inventing, but Lemon notes that Strawberry's good with talking to other berries.

The two girls then hear a voice greeting a verbose "good day" as a nerdy scientist boy walks up to them. Lemon Meringue climbs back under her truck, while Strawberry Shortcake tries to pull her out as the boy introduces himself as Plum Pudding. He tells them he's from Fusionberry, and mistakes Strawberry for Lemon Meringue. Strawberry corrects Plum, and yanks Lemon out from under the truck, dragging her over to meet him. Plum tries to shake her hand, but Lemon freezes up, and Plum decides that formalities are unnecessary. He asks her to show her best innovation, Lemon can barely utter a single word, so Strawberry speaks up and "agrees" with Lemon that they can't possibly pick from so many great inventions. Strawberry brings up the Dream Clean 3000, before noting that it exploded. She then remembers the Sparkberry Turbo Cooler, which she realizes also exploded. Strawberry weakly suggests The Cakenator, but then remembers that it exploded multiple times, as Cakenator 4 flies past them.

Plum Pudding isn't concerned, as he tells the girls that great inventors are always trying and failing, and asks Lemon what her neural noggin (brain) is working on now. Strawberry nudges Lemon with her elbow, and Lemon rushes off. She returns, with an unfrosted cake, and Custard wearing a frosting-spraying device on her back. Strawberry, concerned, asks Lemon what she's doing with her cat, and Lemon proceeds to show off the Kitty Cannon. Plum Pudding is intrigued as he begins writing on his tablet, until the invention malfunctions and sprays frosting all over the area, including knocking Plum back. Plum walks back up to the girls, cleaning his glasses, and asks Lemon if she has any inventions that are less of the "exploding" variety. Lemon Meringue is unable to think of any, when Strawberry realizes that she does have one...

Strawberry Shortcake shows off her Very Berry Oven, which Plum Pudding is underwhelmed by. Strawberry tries to explain why it is more than just a regular oven, but is unable to come up with anything due to her not knowing anything about inventing, only able to tell Plum that it's pink. Lemon Meringue, fed up with Strawberry's tech illiteracy, immediately takes back over the interview. She tells Plum that Strawberry is a really good baker and has to serve a lot of customers, so she made the oven bigger with extra racks for maximum bake-age, and hooked it up to the truck's sparkberry engine to make it extra powerful. Lemon then clarifies to Plum that not all her inventions are pink, and Strawberry is proud.

Cutaway: Strawberry Shortcake confidently claims she knew Lemon had it in her to do the interview.

Plum Pudding, now more interested in the oven, suggests for Strawberry to demonstrate her baking. A short montage plays out of Strawberry baking, and she presents a galaxy cake to Plum, fresh from her one-of-a-kind Lemon Meringue-made oven. Plum takes a slice, and is overwhelmed by how delicious it is, grabbing the rest of the cake and eating it in one go, which visibly disturbs Strawberry and Lemon. Plum politely compliments the cake as he wipes his mouth with a napkin, and thanks Lemon for providing an illuminating afternoon. He tells the girls that he'll post the article tomorrow morning and bids them farewell. Strawberry compliments Lemon for pulling off the interview despite not liking talking about herself.

Cutaway: Lemon Meringue is glad that Strawberry was there to speak up for her, but she's also glad Strawberry doesn't know how to talk about technology, as it made her figure out how to express herself.

Strawberry and Lemon read through the article, "Outstanding Oven Helps Strawberry Shortcake Bake It Big In The City". Strawberry apologizes to Lemon for overshadowing her in the article, but Lemon considers it flan-tastic, as it's focusing on the oven rather than her, and the oven looks amazing. Strawberry agrees, and suggests that more of Lemon's inventions should. be pink. Lemon tells Strawberry to not push her luck as the episode ends.

Cast

Non-Voiced Appearance

Trivia

  • This episode introduces Plum Pudding into the series, not only as a nerdy scientist after Berry Bitty Adventures changed Plum into a girly dancer, but also as a boy, becoming the first incarnation of the character to be male ever since the very first Strawberry Shortcake animated special.
  • A galaxy cake is a type of cake frosted with a mirror glaze and various food colorings, giving it the appearance of a galaxy-like pattern.

Continuity

  • Lemon's fear of public speaking and discomfort with talking about herself is shown again since "Lemon's Name in Lights" and "Will You Be My Lemontine".
  • The inventions Strawberry brings up are the Dream Clean 3000 ("Spring Cleaning"), the Sparkberry Turbo Cooler ("Ice Cream Trouble"), the Cakenators ("Robot Strawberry") and the Very Berry Oven.
    • Strangely, the Cakenator 6 is not shown, which was the Cakenator that Strawberry actually saw.
    • The Cakenator 4's upper half reappears once more, continuing the running gag from its debut episode.

References to Past Series

  • Plum Pudding completely harkens back to his original characterization from the 1980s, being a nerdy scientist boy.
  • Plum's first line has him substitute "very" with "berry". In the 1980s specials, this was known as "Berry Talk", where "berry" replaces a rhyming word.

References

  • Fusionberry is likely named after Fusionworks, a real-life technology and innovation website.
