A Berry Perfect Kind of Day is the two-part premiere of Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City Season 2. It premiered on June 25th, 2022.
Summary[]
It’s another PERFECT day for Strawberry Shortcake! Big Apple City now feels like home and her friends like family. The day becomes even more perfect when a celebrity baker turns up at the Berryworks!
Plot[]
Part 1[]
The season begins with Strawberry Shortcake waking up at 7:00 am. She changes out of her pajamas into her regular outfit offscreen, hopping back into frame as she adjusts her leggings. She pets Custard and runs out of her room. As Strawberry runs out of the apartment, Aunt Praline casually tosses her a slice of toast which she catches.
Cutaway: Strawberry Shortcake says that she, a small town girl, is finally figuring out life in Big Apple City. She's excited for another perfect day.
Strawberry leaps out of her apartment building, as she begins singing "Berry Perfect Kind of Day". She declares there's no time for rest as she's on her way to be the berry best, feeling like she can finally be herself in Big Apple City. She strolls through the city, mentioning how every day there's always something new to whisk her off her feet, but life is still golden and pretty sweet. As the chorus plays, she slides down the stairway banister to the Funnelcake System, greeting a friendly citizen as she enters the train. On the train, the Pizza Rat gets her attention and lets her sit in the open seat next to it.
As she leaves the Funnelcake System, she meets up with Orange Blossom. She continues singing about how her life has been going pretty great, getting Lime Chiffon's attention as she reads a book on a bench. The girls run past Blueberry Muffin smelling a flower, and Lemon Meringue who had been fiddling with one of her inventions. The Berry Besties meet up with Huck at a bus stop, Strawberry tossing him a cupcake which he quickly gobbles down. The Berry Besties run through a marketplace, with Strawberry stopping to buy an apple as she transitions to the chorus. During the second chorus, the Berry Besties run through Golden Delicious Park, with a friendly hot dog vendor noticing Strawberry and giving her a free hot dog.
Strawberry Shortcake reflects on her life as she and her friends continue walking through Golden Delicious Park. Strawberry mentions how she grew up knowing there was more to life she wanted to accomplish, and adventures she wanted to go on. As the Berry Besties reach the Berryworks, they're joined by Raspberry Tart and their pets. Strawberry tells her friends that her reality is better than she dreamed it would be with them by her side. The final chorus plays, as the Berry Besties all prepare for another day at the Berryworks and set up their carts. The song ends as the group gathers in the middle of the courtyard together. Strawberry says she wants everything to stay just like this forever.
Bread Pudding quickly runs up to the group and frantically shouts that nothing is ever going to be the same, startling Strawberry into Orange's arms. He tells the group, out of breath, that a very famous Baker is at the Berryworks as he collapses to the ground. Strawberry, flattered, tells Bread that just because the video of her and Raspberry on Bite of the City went viral doesn't make them famous. Suddenly, The Peculiar Purple Pieman approaches her, clarifying that Bread was talking about him. Strawberry is immediately awestruck at his arrival, oblivious to his smugly intimidating aura.
Cutaway: Strawberry tries to calm herself down and keep it together, noting that Purple Pieman is one of the biggest bakers in Big Apple City and one of her personal idols.
Strawberry tries to greet the Pieman, but he brushes her off. He tells her he has no time for autographs, as he's currently busy with a new addition to the Berryworks, concealed behind a purple curtain. Huckleberry Pie briefly wonders where that came from. The Purple Pieman announces the crown jewel to his empire: His flagship Purple Pieshop, as the curtain drops (onto Strawberry's truck) to reveal the new store. Strawberry becomes even more excited that The Purple Pieman's going to be working in the same place as her. She attempts to tell The Pieman this and introduce herself to him, but he brushes her off once more, telling her he has no time for fanberries. She tries to explain once more that she's not a fanberry, she's a baker like him. She brings up her viral video, and Pieman immediately begins laughing, ridiculing her for thinking she could ever be compared to him. He "accidentally" calls her "Snortflake", and tells her it takes more than a silly video to make someberry a baker. He then yells for Bread to accompany him as he goes to inspect his shop.
Strawberry sadly corrects Pieman, telling him her name is "Shortcake". She puts on a smile and tells her friends it's another perfect day since she got to meet her baking hero, even though he doesn't know her name or think she's a baker. She continues forcing a smile as she loudly asks who doesn't love a friendship challenge, still trying to convince herself that it's a perfect day.
Part 2[]
Strawberry Shortcake anxiously runs through her kitchen, accidentally dropping some cupcakes onto the counter. She manages to catch one and places it down, and aims her piping bag at it to frost it. She then gets sprayed with frosting, due to her accidentally pointing the bag towards herself. Strawberry groans.
Cutaway: Strawberry is frustrated that she's completely off her game. She explains that The Peculiar Purple Pieman, her baking hero and the "genius" behind the Purple Pieshops located all across Big Apple City, moved into the Berryworks. She thinks that should be the best thing ever...
As Strawberry cleans up the Extraordinary Berry, she notices The Purple Pieman (followed by Bread Pudding carrying a stack of purple pies) walking past her truck. She tries to greet him but he completely ignores her, much to her disappointment.
Cutaway: Strawberry sadly finishes her thought, noting that The Pieman barely notices her.
Strawberry continues sulking in her truck, when her Berry Besties walk up to her. She immediately puts on a smile and greets them. Orange Blossom asks Strawberry if she's okay, and Lime Chiffon notes that Strawberry hasn't been acting like herself ever since The Peculiar Purple Pieman moved in. Blueberry Muffin approaches Strawberry and squishes her face, telling her that her energy is way off. Strawberry is aware of this and apologizes, telling her friends that she thought if she ever got to meet one of her baking heroes, they would become best berries. She then imagines her and The Pieman being friends, sharing baking tips, and gossiping until the sun goes down, but then laments that The Pieman won't even talk to her as she puts her head on her counter. Lemon Meringue bluntly tells Strawberry that she's putting too much importance on someberry else's opinion, and that her emotional well-being shouldn't be dependent on someberry she barely knows, Lemon notices her friends staring at her, and tells them that she doesn't like feelings, but she still understands them. Huckleberry Pie agrees with Lemon, and tells Strawberry that she doesn't need everyberry to like her, and that they like her because they know her. This gives Strawberry an idea and she tells Huck that he's right, which he's confused by. She tells her friends that if The Pieman gets to know her, he'll like her, which she thinks will be easy since she's totally likable. Strawberry laughs, and decides to go prove how likable she is to him, and runs out of her truck. Orange notes that Strawberry almost got the message.
Strawberry begins attempting to befriend The Purple Pieman. She first leans against the wall near the Purple Pieshop, then compliments his apron by calling it snazzy, but he simply tosses it at her in response. Later, she peeks through some bushes in the Berryworks' walk-through garden and spots the Pieman walking along the path. Strawberry immediately pops up near Lime Chiffon (who was sitting nearby) and loudly asks her if she read Purple Pieman's memoir, "My Peculiar Purple Life", as he walks past, but he averts eye contact and continues walking past the girls. Strawberry is disappointed her attempt didn't work, and Lime takes the memoir away from Strawberry. Finally, Strawberry walks right up to the Purple Pieshop as Pieman is setting aside some flour. She clears her throat and begins singing a song about how they should be friends, but Pieman interrupts her by tossing the flour at her and slamming the window closed. A frustrated Strawberry storms off, and the Purple Pieman watches her leave, snickering to himself.
Strawberry sadly places a soufflé on her counter, which pathetically deflates. Strawberry tells her sad soufflé that she feels the same way. Raspberry Tart, who had been out getting groceries the whole time, witnesses this and walks back to the Raspberry Supreme, where the Berry Besties have gathered. She sets her groceries on her counter and asks the group what's wrong with Strawberry. Orange explains that Strawberry can't get over the fact that The Peculiar Purple Pieman doesn't like her, and Lime adds that they're trying to think of ways to cheer her up, handing Raspberry a sheet of paper. Raspberry scoffs and drops the paper, telling the Berry Besties that Strawberry doesn't need cheering up, she needs sense smacked into her with a spatula. Raspberry cheerfully volunteers to do it and walks over to Strawberry, as Orange Blossom takes Raspberry's spatula away so she doesn't literally smack sense into their friend.
Strawberry picks up a crate of apples and looks over to the Purple Pieshop, but is startled by Raspberry Tart telling her to get it together, nearly dropping the apple crate. Raspberry asks Strawberry who cares what the Pieman thinks as she puts back the crate, Strawberry then asks Raspberry what if Pieman doesn't notice her because she's not worth noticing. Raspberry groans and tells Strawberry to get over it, telling her friend that she's been the most confident berry she's ever met since the day she arrived. Raspberry points out that nothing she tried could stop Strawberry, which she agrees with. Raspberry then notes that Strawberry didn't get all mopey when they first met and Raspberry didn't like her, which Strawberry also agrees with, but tells Raspberry that's because her "strawberry senses" were tingling and she knew the former Mean Berry would come around. Raspberry concedes on that point, noting that it's why she's standing there acting all sweet and caring with her. Strawberry gasps and tells Raspberry that she's right, which she claims was obvious. Strawberry says she needs to stop worrying about what others think and just be herself, which Raspberry agrees with. Strawberry then concludes that eventually everyberry will like her anyways, which Raspberry tries to dissuade Strawberry from thinking as her friend runs off.
Strawberry Shortcake runs up to the Purple Pieman, proudly telling him that she doesn't need to prove herself to him. She declares her name is Strawberry Shortcake, and that Pieman is about to find out just how awesome she can be. She takes a muffin out of her beanie tells him to have it, or don't, but either way she made it and it's delicious. She then hands him the muffin and runs back to her truck, as Raspberry notes that Strawberry almost got the message, which Orange agrees with, thinking back to her earlier conversation with their friend. Raspberry tells the Berry Besties that she never thought she'd say it, but she's glad to have the annoyingly happy Strawberry back. The group then overhears Strawberry confidently singing a song to herself about being the best berry as she mixes a bowl. The episode ends with Raspberry noting that Strawberry is a lot to deal with.

Trivia[]
- This episode shows a visible upgrade in animation quality from Season 1.
- The Peculiar Purple Pieman is established to be the main antagonist of Season 2, and will begin operating out of the Berryworks rather than his previously seen factory headquarters.
- Sour Grapes strangely doesn't make an appearance in this episode, potentially for a big reveal later in the season...
- Some new background extras can be seen, such as the punk girls and Jelly Roll.
- Notably, when Strawberry enters the Funnelcake System, a bunch of background extras can be seen with rather unique color palettes that are never seen anywhere else in the series.
- In Part 2, during one of Strawberry's attempts to get the Pieman to like her, Lime Chiffon is apparently reading a book about books.
Continuity[]
- Strawberry's idolization of The Purple Pieman is brought up for the first time since Berry In The Big City and plays a major part in the episode, as she tries to befriend him.
- During the final verse of Berry Perfect Kind of Day, Strawberry's flashbacks consist of clips from Berry In The Big City.
- Lemon Meringue brings up her discomfort with sharing feelings, which was established in Will You Be My Lemontine. She adds that while she doesn't like feelings, she does understand them.
- This two-parter features several references to the previous episode, Bake Off.
- Raspberry Tart and Bread Pudding are fully considered part of the Berry Besties now.
- Strawberry brings up the episode of Bite of the City with her and Raspberry that went viral.
- The Purple Pieman has begun enacting his plans to sabotage Strawberry, which was set up in the episode's final scene.
- The book Lime Chiffon was briefly seen reading in Part 1 is the same book from Keylime Time. The book in question is A Tale of Two Cities, but with coffee beans.
- The invention Lemon Meringue was fiddling with in Part 1 is a miniature version of The Machine Machine from Go For The Goldenberry, which appears to be one of the smaller machines that the machine makes. One could infer she was trying to imbue it with some sort of function, as she mentioned she never considered what the smaller machines actually did in that episode.
- Several citizens around Big Apple City recognize Strawberry Shortcake, all of whom have interacted with her previously
- Customer #2, the blonde lady with the blue top who greeted Strawberry in the Funnelcake System, is a regular customer of Strawberry's. She directly spoke to Strawberry in Mean Berries when she asked her if "Raspberry's" country treats were authentic.
- The hot dog vendor (later named Spicy Crust) offered Strawberry a hot dog in No Ordinary Berry.
- The Pizza Rat met Strawberry when she helped him retrieve his pizza slice from a sewer grate in No Ordinary Berry.
References[]
- Strawberry mentions her "strawberry senses" when Raspberry Tart tries to smack some sense into her in Part 2, claiming that they told her Raspberry would eventually come around to being her friend. It might be a reference to Spider-Man's "spidey sense", a form of heightened awareness that warns Spider-Man of an incoming threat.
Errors[]
- When Raspberry Tart and the Berryworks Pets appear, Red Hot is on Raspberry's side despite being Huckleberry's pet ferret.
- After Bread Pudding runs up to the group, Raspberry's face changes from a slight smile to an annoyed look, but then switches back to her previous slight smile at the last second before the shot changes.
